What happens if Bengaluru FC vs Punjab FC clash ends in stalemate in Super Cup 2025?

Bengaluru FC and Punjab FC will lock horns in the Group C decider.

The group stage of the Super Cup 2025 is nearing its conclusion, with various teams competing for a place in the knockouts. Group C is set to witness a cracking decider between Bengaluru FC and Punjab FC.

Bengaluru and Punjab have dominated this group, and there is no difference between the two in the points table.

The former ISL champions will clash with the Shers on Wednesday to seal the top spot in Group C. The match will be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa. The kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM IST.

Fate hangs in the balance

Bengaluru FC and Punjab FC have been at their best in the 2025 AIFF Super Cup with consecutive wins in the first two games, speaking volumes of their flawless form.

However, it won’t be just form that will take them to the knockouts. With only one knockout spot on offer, the mental fortitude of the two ISL clubs will be tested.

Both clubs have six points after the first two group stage fixtures. Bengaluru FC thrashed Mohammedan SC and Gokulam Kerala FC with 2-0 and 4-0 score lines, respectively. Punjab FC have also done the same to their rivals, registering 3-0 victories against Gokulam Kerala FC and Mohammedan SC.

Sunil Chhetri has shown signs of returning to goalscoring form with two consecutive goals in the group stage fixtures. Not just the Indian veteran but the youngsters have also played a key role in putting Bengaluru FC in a comfortable position in the race to the knockouts.

What if the clash ends in a stalemate?

The top two teams from Group C are set to clash in an exciting encounter, which could end in a stalemate. A draw will complicate the standings as both teams will finish the group stage with the same number of points and goal difference.

To find a table topper and a winner, the teams will fire in penalties to decide the group winners. Rule 12.2.3.2.4.3 of the competition states, “Kicks from the Penalty Mark if only two (2) Teams still have an equal ranking and are still on the field having played their last group Match against each other.”

East Bengal FC and FC Goa have already sealed their place in the knockouts. In Group D, Kerala Blasters and Mumbai City FC are strong contenders to secure a spot in the knockouts.

The winner of the clash between Bengaluru FC and Punjab FC will face East Bengal FC in the Semi-final, while FC Goa will play against the Group D topper.
