The Calcutta Football League’s Kolkata Derby scheduled for today has been cancelled. East Bengal have been awarded the three points by way of a forfeit after Mohun Bagan refused to play. Bagan had earlier made clear their standof refusing to play the game and made good of their promise earlier today after the team failed to show up at Kalyani Stadium. The East Bengal players reached the ground on time and had a warm-up session as per schedule. The Red and Gold supporters gathered in numbers knowing the circumstances they would face. After waiting for half an hour, the match officials and commissioner called off the match following talks with East Bengal captain Arnab Mondal. Their attempts to reach the Mariners for confirmation of their stance proved futile. EB’s South Korean striker Do-Dong-Hyun smiled and said, "If the match was played I would have scored goals again and would have been awarded the Man of the Match like the previous two derbies. But it’s unfortunate that they did not turn up.” Skipper Mondal added, "This is not a good advertisement for Kolkata football or rather Indian football. This is unexpected. Nobody has the right to play with the emotions of so many supporters. These two clubs are fan-centric clubs."Report by Khel Now Correspondent Rony. Sports passionate and content writer.
