Top five players with most away goals in a single Bundesliga season

Robert Lewandowski has set yet another new goalscoring record in the league.

The German Bundesliga is one of the elite European leagues which sees exciting football. It is popular worldwide because of the attacking brand of football on display. Several brilliant attackers have played in the competition in the past, scoring a lot of goals. While representing their respective teams, the goalscorers have scored goals both home and away.

Scoring away from home is a particularly difficult task. The stadium is full of opposition fans that can put a lot of pressure on a player. However, some goalscorers like Robert Lewandowski are unfazed by these circumstances. He recently set another new goalscoring record in the Bundesliga for scoring the most away goals.

The feat is a reminder of the other exquisite goalscorers who have scored a lot of away goals in a single campaign. Therefore, here is a look at the top five players with the most away goals in a single Bundesliga season:

5. Andre Silva - 15 goals (2020-21)

Andre Silva had a very successful campaign during the 2020-21 season. The Portuguese international scored a whopping 15 away goals while playing for Eintracht Frankfurt. Furthermore, the striker scored 28 goals overall, more than Erling Haaland and second-most in the league.

Andre Silva is not the only player to score 15 away goals in a single Bundesliga campaign. He is accompanied by players like  Robert Lewandowski, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Edin Dzeko and Gerd Muller.

4. Erling Haaland - 16 goals (2020-21)

Erling Haaland was unstoppable for most opposition defenders during the 2020-21 season. The Norwegian international scored 16 away goals for Borussia Dortmund. In addition, the striker also had 11 goals on the home ground, taking his tally to 27.

Haaland finished the season third in the race for the golden boot, behind Andre Silva (28) and Robert Lewandowski (41). The striker established himself as a true force in European football this season playing for BVB.

3. Jupp Heynckes  - 17 goals (1973-74)

Jupp Heynckes is one of the most iconic players to have played in the Bundesliga. A legend of German football, he was successful both as a player and a manager. During the 1973-74 season of the competition, the forward scored 17 away goals. 

He finished the season joint at the top with Gerd Muller with 30 goals each. Borussia Monchengladbach holds Heynckes in very high regard for his exceptional service to the club. He is also a former FIFA World Cup winner and scored over 220 goals in the league.

2. Timo Werner - 17 goals (2019-20)

Before coming to the Premier League, Timo Werner was impressing the world with his goalscoring feats in the Bundesliga. While playing for RB Leipzig, Werner managed 17 away goals during the 2019-20 season. 

While his goalscoring form may have suffered since joining Chelsea FC, scoring 17 away goals in a single season shows Werner’s quality. The German international scored 28 goals overall that season and finished second in the race for the golden boot to Lewandowski.

1. Robert Lewandowski - 18 goals (2021-22)

Robert Lewandowski has scored 18 goals in the 2021-22 campaign of the Bundesliga. The striker holds several records and added yet another feather in the cap. The Polish international has scored goals for fun while playing for FC Bayern Munich, helping the club to the league title virtually every season. 

He also has 34 goals in 32 appearances and could add more goals before the end of the season. Furthermore, Lewandowski is heading for his fifth consecutive golden boot in the German Bundesliga with Patrick Schick second with 22 goals and Erling Haaland third with 21 goals.
