The Magpies will be looking to bolster their squad heading into next term
Luke Edwards reports that Newcastle United are preparing a costly double transfer swoop this summer to get Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jarrod Bowen.
The Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been being watched by the Magpies for the past two years as a possible immediate replacement for Callum Wilson, who may depart this summer, according to a Telegraph journalist who wrote on Thursday, May 23. Throughout the 2023–24 season, Bowen scored 20 goals and sent out 10 assists for the Hammers.
Although Calvert-Lewin and West Ham starlet Jarrod Bowen are both targets for Newcastle, the Magpies know that both transfers may end up being costly and that some of the current players might need to be moved out in order to pay for them.
Eddie Howe is looking to bolster his team at St James’ Park, and the former England international’s name has been mentioned frequently in Newcastle’s recruitment meetings. He is one of the names on an extremely limited number of transfer targets.
Everton have relied heavily on Calvert-Lewin’s goals over the past several seasons to propel them to Premier League security; without him, they would most likely been in the EFL Championship at this point.
But if the proper offer is made to the Toffees this summer, especially if it’s a big-money deal, they may have to sell players due to Goodison Park’s dire financial circumstances and 777 Partners’ stalling acquisition.

With just a year remaining on his deal, Calvert-Lewin is still under contract with Sean Dyche’s team. Although the Everton manager will be sad to part with his primary goal scorer, he will acknowledge that this may be a necessary sacrifice to keep the financial books balanced.
In the event that there is any interest, perhaps the Toffees will fight for their player and make sure they get paid a significant amount for their number nine. However, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him work for another team the following season.
