Roberto De Zerbi has been linked with a managerial job in Barcelona and Liverpool
As his club gets ready to play Liverpool on Sunday, Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi claims he hasn’t yet reached an agreement on a new deal with the Seagulls.
The Italian has been tipped to take Jurgen Klopp’s place at Anfield next summertime. His current contract at Brighton expires in 2026. With ten games remaining, Brighton are presently ranked ninth in the Premier League.
For the first time in their 122-year existence, Brighton qualified for European participation after De Zerbi led them to sixth place in the Premier League the previous season. This season, his squad defeated Roma in the competition’s round of 16 despite finishing first in a Europa League group that also included Marseille, Ajax, and AEK Athens.
This week, it became apparent how the Italian might accept the Liverpool position because Xabi Alonso is anticipated to remain at Bayer Leverkusen.

When his teams are playing at their best, they create triangles all over the pitch, discover angles that others can not, dictate the rhythm when in possession, and push the opposition man-to-man. When his Brighton team is playing at its best, it’s like watching the development of the sport and its future. Brighton installed battering hammers under De Zerbi in place of the wing crumbs employed under Graham Potter.
“My relationship with my players, my fans – I think it can’t change depending on the future,” De Zerbi continued. “What we did is history, and we can’t forget it.
“[In] future, I want to keep my ambition, my motivation. I live for football 24 hours a day. I want to know what is the plan, what is the project.
“If I don’t feel comfortable, I don’t feel the right motivation, I can’t stay any longer. I have not decided yet what my future is,” De Zerbi told Sky.
“I have the contract, but I want to speak with [owner] Tony Bloom and my club to understand their plan. Then we’ll take the decision together.”
