Top five players who can replace Marco Reus at Borussia Dortmund

The Prince of BVB has already played his final Bundesliga and home game

The 2023-24 Bundesliga season is over. Borussia Dortmund will be playing in the UEFA Champions League next season no matter what happens in this year’s finale. But there is a major farewell moment here in Dortmund right now. Marco Reus has already played his final game in the German first tier as this happens to be the last season for the local boy. The 34-year-old could be heading to Major League Soccer as per reports.

Edin Terzić’s men will now play the UCL final against Real Madrid on June 2. Can Reus along with his teammates get their hands on the title? Only time will tell. Win or lose, they surely will be an attractive outfit to play for next season. The German side will now need a replacement for the outgoing star. These following five players could be worth signing next.

5. Jobe Bellingham (Sunderland A.F.C.)

Jude Bellingham is obviously a household name now after he joined Real Madrid and produced magic moments throughout his first season in Spain. Previously the footballer was playing for Borussia Dortmund. No, we are not suggesting him to be resigned but he does have a talented younger brother as well. Jobe Bellingham is two years younger than the Madrid star.

The 18-year-old made 45 appearances in the EFL Championship this season with Sunderland. The attacking midfielder produced seven goals during that period plus an assist.

4. Chris Führich (VfB Stuttgart)

This season has been truly unimaginable for Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the Bundesliga as they finished as undefeated champions. But even VfB Stuttgart managed to punch above their weight.

A second-placed finish over the likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have been inspiring. Nevertheless, this will attract clubs to go after their season-defining players. Chris Führich is one such name. The 26-year-old could come in and replace Reus instantly.

3. Can Uzun (1. FC Nürnberg)

Another player that has been making his name in Germany is Can Uzun. Uzun hasn’t yet played for a big team but as they say, diamonds are found in the rough. The Turkish attacking midfielder came through the youth system of 1. FC Nürnberg.

This season was his first in the senior team while they played in the second tier of German football – 2. Bundesliga. Dortmund can sign the talent to secure their future also as the player is just 18. At this age, he has scored 16 league goals while also providing two assists.

2. Álex Baena (Villarreal CF)

There are other worthy talents to look out for abroad as well. Die Schwarzgelben can even try their luck in signing a certain 22-year-old. If we look at the 2023-24 LaLiga stats table, Álex Baena of Villarreal CF tops the assists chart at the moment. Baena has produced 13 assists for his side while also having made 33 appearances this season in the league. The right-footed attacking midfielder does have a contract until 2028 with the Yellow Submarine.

1. Angel Gomes (LOSC Lille)

A former Manchester United youth product also can be a worthwhile investment. Angel Gomes is the only player on the list who has been associated with one of the biggest clubs in his career. Although Gomes found it very hard to get game time in his senior team days with United, his move to LOSC Lille has been a blessing. This season the 23-year-old has been superb on the pitch.

In Ligue 1, he recorded eight assists with two goals this season. His versatility to play many positions will also come in handy if Dortmund moves for the Lille star.
