PKL: Pardeep Narwal's top five achievements in Pro Kabaddi history

Pardeep Narwal will go down as one of the biggest legends in PKL.
There is always a debate in the sports world about who is more important—the player or the game? While the easy answer could be that the game is bigger than any player, there have been occasions when the player pushed the game itself. Kapil Dev’s catch in 1983 changed the way cricket was perceived in India. Sunil Chhetri’s pull brought so much attention and fans to football stadiums in the country.
Pardeep Narwal attained that zenith in Kabaddi. Despite the Indian Kabaddi team being a dominant force, the sport remained on the fringes in the country. and it was only the advent of the Pro Kabaddi League that took the sport to every household. One man who helped take the game to Indian television was Pardeep Narwal, and his dramatic moves were a big crowd-pulling factor in the early years of the league.

His impact on the league was such that Pardeep holds most of the records in PKL. Let’s dig into those and look at his top five achievements.
5. Most points in PKL – 1801 Points
Nothing speaks louder than the results for a sportsman, and in Kabaddi, each point matters, as it not only gives a point but also takes a player out from the opposition lineup. Pardeep Narwal made his debut in season two for the Bengaluru Bulls. His move to the Patna Pirates in season three unleashed the killing instinct in him. Since then, Pardeep has been scoring points in a heap, taking his team to titles.
He helped the Patna Pirates achieve a hat-trick of titles in PKL history. Pardeep continued his scoring spree when he moved to UP Yoddhas in season eight. He has mustered 1801 points in 10 seasons in PKL history. He is far ahead of others, with Maninder Singh at a distant second with 1544 points. Although his last two seasons were ordinary, Pardeep has the talent and age to bring back his golden form.

4. Most points in a single season – 369 Points

Over the years, multiple players have performed admirably well for a season or two. The greats are the ones who can sustain their impact for a longer time. Season five of PKL was such a test for the ‘Dubki King’ as the league saw the introduction of four new teams, making it bigger than before. But that didn’t deter Pardeep Narwal.
He was at his dominating best as he decimated all his opponents to score a mind-boggling 369 points in the season, which is the most in a season in PKL history. He was 150 points ahead of the second-placed raider as he eased past his opponents to a triple century of points. He was awarded the Most Valuable Player and Best Raider awards, making him the only player to win both in a season.
3. Most points in a single raid – 8 Points
Season five of the Pro Kabaddi League saw many memorable moments, but none better than Pardeep Narwal’s effort to clean the entire team off the mat in a single raid. The two-time defending champions Patna took on Haryana Steelers in the Eliminator. With just under eight minutes left in the game, Patna were cruising with a 44-25 lead.
Pardeep, with his usual nonchalance, raided into the Steelers’ territory. Seeing the season’s best defender Surender Nada coming in with a chain tackle with Vikas Kandola, Pardeep tried executing a Dubki but evaded the chain and escaped the cover duo of Neeraj Kumar and Rakesh Singh.
He then executed a Dubki against the right corner-right in duo to take all six players off the mat. It is a record and memory etched in the hearts of PKL fans.

2. Most super raids – 109
The Dubki King’s career had many moments, like the 8-point Raid against Haryana in which he scored multiple points. In the Pro Kabaddi League, if the raider picks up three or more points, it is referred to as a Super Raid, and this Kabaddi Superstar owns the record with 109 Super Raids in PKL history. His competitor for the record is Maninder Singh, with 72, and it could take a few years to come closer to Pardeep.
There are many extraordinary raids. Some of the favourites among the fans were the six-point raid against Bengal Warriorz when he escaped the likes of Baldev Singh & Co. to seal the deal. Probably one raid that describes his character of squeezing every opportunity to get points was from season nine against Dabang Delhi when Vishal Lather and Vijay Malik almost pinned him down. But he fought against the holds from both players from the bonus line and crawled his way back to the midline.

Players are defined by their consistency, and for almost a decade, Pardeep was its signature. He would come in and score points for fun. He scored 10+ points in almost every game, which is called a Super 10. He played a key role in Patna Pirates winning three consecutive PKL titles, scoring 623 Raid Points and 29 Super 10s.

Pardeep has amassed 88 Super 10s, and fans would want the Dubki King to score more and entertain fans in the coming years.
