There was no pep talk, it was just a realistic talk at halftime- Sankarlal Chakrabarty

Abdoulaye Koffi scored the only goal for Shillong Lajong.
A thrilling Hero Super Cup quarter-final encounter between Mohun Bagan and Shillong Lajong FC ended 3-1 in the Mariners’ favour at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. Sk. Faiaz and Nikhil Kadam gave Mohun Bagan the lead before Abdoulaye Koffi scored for Lajong in an entertaining first half. However, a second-half own goal from Laurence Doe extinguished any hopes of a Lajong comeback.
Bagan’s head coach Sankarlal Chakrabarty was present to address questions from the media in the post-match press conference, where he shed light on the change in tactics he implemented in the second half which ultimately won them the match. “There was no pep talk. It was just a realistic talk at half-time. In midfield, they had a diamond shape and two guys in front. So they were a little bit confused. There were two men that were always free. So we discussed all these things at half-time and then played much better in the second half,” he shared.
The 42-year-old also lauded his players and expressed delight on the number of chances his team created rather than rebuking them for the missed ones. “Sometimes in football, these kinds of things can happen. You can have a lot of ups and downs. We missed a lot of chances, but at least we created those chances,” he inferred.
From Lajong’s end, their coach Alison Kharsyntiew took questions from the media. The young coach singled out fatigue to be the prime reason for Lajong’s inability to stage a comeback. “After 60-70 minutes, my players looked a bit tired. But Mohun Bagan played well and defended well. We couldn’t create chances to score goals.”
However, he was all praises for his young squad and said, “It is not a case of wastage. The players have tried but sometimes luck doesn't favour you. So I can’t blame them. The third goal killed us.” Before signing off, he also commented on Lajong’s run in the competition. “It is a good experience for most of the young boys in the squad. I hope next season they will improve themselves and get more experience,” he concluded.
