Calangute Association edged past Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao 1-0 to register their first victory of the season in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today. Talegao made three changes as Gourav Kankonkar, Sherwin Lobo and Salu Santos found a place in the starting XI. While Melroy Fernandes, Rajinder Kumar, Dalesh Pednekar and Rohan Kamble were the new faces for the Calangute side. In what was a rainy encounter the match was mostly restricted to midfield play. Both team shared equal possession but Calangute were the better side today. Yogesh Kadam was excellent throughout the match and scored the winner for Calangute. In the 13th minute Taleigao keeper Rohan Sheikh smartly cleared Kamble’s cross from the right flank. Just a minute later Calngute’s Terence Lobo sent a perfect cross to skipper Kadam, but he failed to connect from six yards. As the match progressed; Calangute’s Bonny Niasso and Agnelo Colaco tried their luck from distance but both shots went wide. At the half hour mark, a direct free-kick from Lobo missed Taleigao’s goal narrowly. On the resumption of play Calangute scored one of the fastest goals in the second half of the Goa Pro League this season as just 30 seconds after the break Kadam fired a right footer which nestled into the back of the Taleigao nylons. In the 53rd minute, Taleigao came close to leveling back but Calangute’s defender Melvin Lobo made no mistake to clear the deadly cross from Pramod Mardolkar. Few minutes later Agnelo’s 20-yard free-kick was pushed out for a corner by opposition shot-stopper Rohan. 10 minutes before the final whistle Agnelo again came up with a shot from the edge of the box but this time the crossbar denied it. In the dying minutes of the match Taleigao played some excellent football but every time failed in the final third. Calangute Coach Valentine Ezeugo was pleased with his team’s performance and said, “We needed these three points it doesn’t matter how the game went. These three points were important for us. it will motivate our boys for the next match.” With this victory Calangute Association opened their points tally and moved up to 4th, while Clube Sao Miguel de Talegao drop down to 8th position in the table .
