Efficient Tata Football Academy trounce listless Churchill Brothers in IFA Shield
The boys from the famed academy put up another convincing performance in the youth tournament.
Churchill Brothers took on the Tata Football Academy at a rain-drenched Barasat Stadium, with the IFA Shield match ending in a 3-0 success for the Tata boys.
In a first half that was intermittently marked with torrential rain, Tata Football Academy started off brightly and on the front foot. The high defensive line employed by Churchill Brothers was breached again and again by the dynamic TFA forward line. Utilising both the wings, the boys from the famed academy split through the backline like a knife through better.
The Goan club looked low on confidence, ceding possession in midfield repeatedly. They even failed to play the offside trap on a number of occasions, which led to TFA players being one-on-one with the Churchill goalkeeper. However, poor finishing coupled with some smart goalkeeping thwarted their attempts.
Churchill looked poor even on the ball while attacking, as all of their forays kept breaking down near the TFA box. Thanks to sheer luck from the Goan club's perspective, the first half ended with nothing to separate the two sides.
The second 45 started on the same note as the first. Churchill Brothers tried to implement a deeper defensive line, but they were clearly no match for the TFA players, who kept breaching the lines. However, poor finishing kept plaguing them until finally, right winger Harsha Pauri slotted one in following some impressive play down the left. Soon after, Jagoi made it 2-0 for the academy lads after a poor clearance from the Churchill shot-stopper left him to shoot at an open goal.

Churchill Brothers looked out of steam, as they had for most of the game. Towards the end of the match, Suresh made it 3-0 for TFA following a stunning lobbed pass from Gaurav, that split the Goan defence into two. The match ended soon after. Churchill now face Bengal Football Academy in the last game of the IFA Shield group stage on the 12th of July.
