Tokyo Olympics Day 7 Preview: Mary Kom, PV Sindhu returns in action

India's action on day 6 at the Tokyo Olympics comes to an end. It was a pretty average day for the Indians. While PV Sindhu started the day with a win, the Indian Women's Hockey team lost their third consecutive match. In Archer both Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav crashed out after losing in the 1/16 Elimination round while Deepika Kumari has qualified for the pre quarters. Sai Praneeth also lost his match and has now crashed out of the Tokyo Olympics. Lastly Pooja Rani started her campaign with a win and the pugilist is only a win away from bagging a medal.

Deepika Kumari, Pooja Rani and Sai Praneeth in action from 2:00 PM IST onwards.

Don't go anywhere as Deepika Kumari will be in action against Bhutan's Karma in her 1/32 eliminations match, then boxer Pooja Rani Bohra will be in action against Algeria's Ichrak Chaib. Lastly, shuttler Sai Praneeth will face the Netherlands' Mark Caljouw in his second round.

Pravin Jadhav gave a tough fight to Brady Ellison in the first two sets. In fact, he almost had the second set in the bag but lack of consistency made it difficult for the Indian as Ellison gave nothing away. Tough day for Indian archery as both Tarundeep and Jadhav bow out of the Summer Games.

Don't go anywhere as India's Pravin Jadhav will be in action soon. After Tarundeep Rai's exit this morning, a lot of hopes lie with the Jadhav to do well. However, it will be a tall task for the youngster as he faces USA's Brady Ellison who is currently the World No. 1!

United States' Brady Ellison defeats Milad Vaziri in an emphatic fashion and progresses to the next round where he will be against Indian archer Pravin Jadhav. it will be a tough contest for the Indian archer against very high quality opposition.

Pravin Jadhav will go up against the winner of the match between Iran's Milad Vaziri Teymoorlooei and United States second seed Brad Ellison

This win will give a lot of confidence to India's Pravin Jadhav as tougher opponents await the youngster in the next round. Jadhav showed no signs of nerves and shot with great precision and would like to continue doing the same in the next round aswell.

6:15 AM Day 6 of the Tokyo Olympics for the Indian contingent will begin with the Indian women's hockey team. They will take to the pitch against reigning Olympic champions Great Britain. The girls will aim to improve on their performance after losses to Netherlands and Germany in the first two matches. After that, P.V. Sindhu will take her place on the badminton court for the second time at these Olympics. She will be playing against Hong Kong’s Cheung Ngan Yi in a Group J match. The World No.7 Indian is a strong medal contender and is the favourite to win this match.

The individual contests in Archery on day 6 of the Tokyo Olympics will begin with Tarundeep Rai in action. He will face Oleksii Hunbin of Ukraine in the Round of 32. The archers could not deliver a medal in team events and will rely on individual performances now. Indian pair of Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh will be in action in the semi-final of the lightweight double sculls event. They are in the running for India’s first-ever Olympic medal in the sport of rowing.

All eyes on Deepika Kumari and Pooja Rani

The Indian pair of Varun Thakkar and K.C. Ganapathy will take part in Races 4, 5 and 6 in the Men’s Skiff 49er event. Pravin Jadhav will also be in action tomorrow, as he plays Galsan Bazarzhapov who is contesting under the ROC flag. India’s best hopes of a medal in archery lie with Deepika Kumari. The World No.1 female archer will face Bhutan’s Karma in the Round of 32 Elimination Round. Kumari has a lot of expectations on her shoulders, as she aims to win her first Olympic medal in a glorious career.

In the Men’s SIngles bracket, Sai Praneeth will play against Mark Caljouw of the Netherlands. The Indian shuttler lost his opening match against Israel’s Misha Zilberman, while the Dutch athlete defeated the same opponent in his opening outing. This will be a make or break match for Praneeth. In women’s boxing, India’s Pooja Rani will be up against Ichrak Chaib of Algeria in the Round of 16. She will hope to turn the tide around after the male boxers failed to impress, losing their bouts in the first rounds.

Tokyo Olympics Day 6 will witness several high-profile Indian athletes in action. On Monday, the Indian men's hockey team bounced back in action with a 3-0 victory over Spain. Boxer Lovlina Borgohain moved into the quarter-finals, whereas sailor Vishnu Saravanan achieved a personal best 12th place finish in the Tokyo Olympics.

On Wednesday, several Indian medal hopefuls will be seen at Tokyo 2020. Medal hopefuls such as Deepika Kumari, P.V. Sindhu and Pooja Rani will be in action in their respective events. The Indian men's rowing team will take part in a historic semi-final race. On the other hand, the Indian women's hockey team will be aiming to register their first victory of the Tokyo 2020 campaign.
