The Canadian has struggled with a back Injury.
In a surprising turn of events, Bianca Andreescu, the 2019 US Open champion, has announced that she will not be participating in the Australian Open 2024 due to a persistent back injury. The Canadian tennis star has been grappling with a stress fracture in her back since the summer, which has significantly impacted her performance and participation in recent tournaments.
Andreescu’s last appearance was at Montreal’s National Bank Open in August. Since then, she has been sidelined, focusing on her recovery. Her journey has been steady but slow, with the 23-year-old yet to pick up a racquet. This has pushed her expected return to action back to March or April.
“Right now, I’m still dealing with my back injury,” Andreescu said in a recent interview in Montreal. “It is getting better every single day. I’m doing everything I can to get there as fast as possible, but sadly these things take some time.”
Despite her ongoing struggles with her injury, Andreescu has set her set sight on recovery and targets Paris Olympics 2024.
“We’re very close but right now I am still dealing with my back injury. It is getting better every single day and I am doing everything I can to get there as fast as possible but these things take time.
“I’m feeling very confident for 2024.”
