Carlos Alcaraz reacts after withdrawing from Canadian Masters due to muscle issues

Carlos Alcaraz is expected to return at the Cincinnati Open.
Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz recently took to social media and released a statement after announcing his withdrawal from the 2025 Canadian Masters.
The five-time Grand Slam champion claimed that due to multiple weeks of competitive tennis at the top level, he has decided to take a rest and recover from the wear and tear. Alcaraz apologised to the Canadian spectators and claimed that he would participate in the tournament next year.
He wrote on X, “After many consecutive weeks of competition without rest, I will not be able to play in Toronto this year. I have small muscle issues, and I need to recover physically and mentally for what comes next. To the tournament and my fans in Canada, I am very sorry, I will see you next year!”
The Spanish tennis star was riding a 24-match unbeaten streak on the ATP tour before coming up short against arch-rival Jannik Sinner in the 2025 Wimbledon Championships final earlier this month.
After a shaky start to his 2025 campaign, the two-time Wimbledon champion picked up his form in the clay season. After winning the Monte Carlo Masters, Alcaraz finished runner-up at the Barcelona Open. He missed the Madrid Open, but his unbeaten streak started at the Rome Masters.
He won the ATP 1000 Masters title in the Italian capital with wins over the likes of Jack Draper, Lorenzo Musetti, and Jannik Sinner.
Alcaraz later defended his title at the French Open and became the fifth player to win five Grand Slam titles. He also won the Queen’s Club Championships and reached the Wimbledon final for the third consecutive year.
However, he was unsuccessful in defending his title at SW19, losing to Sinner in straight sets. The Spanish tennis star is expected to join the North American swing with the Cincinnati Open in August. Last year, he lost to Gael Monfils in the second round of the Cincinnati Open.
