Let us analyze the rivalry between two stars who share mutual admiration for each other!
‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes and ‘The Visionary’ Seth Rollins have been two of the most active pro wrestlers in recent memory. Rhodes is a second-generation professional wrestler who joined the WWE in 2007.
On the other hand, Rollins is an ‘outsider’ with no family background and started his WWE journey in 2010. While Rhodes found decent success in WWE, he left the promotion in 2016 over creative frustration.
On the other hand, Rollins debuted on the main roster in 2012 alongside Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose (Jon Moxley) as The Shield. The faction went on to become a historic force in WWE, dominating the company and transforming the three into generational stars.
Rhodes also found major success in AEW with his new ‘American Nightmare’ moniker. Rhodes also served as the Executive Vice President alongside The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega. Rhodes left the promotion in early 2022 and made his return to WWE at WrestleMania 38.
The two stars have battled each other since before their days as the headline stars they are today. Both Cody and Rollins have been on their parallel paths, which sometimes collide. Rollins is the reigning king of Monday Night Raw, while Cody rules Friday Night SmackDown.
This was the case once again at the 2025 edition of Crown Jewel, where Rhodes, the Undisputed WWE Champion, battled Rollins, the World Heavyweight Champion, for the WWE Crown Jewel title in a Champion vs Champion match.
Head-to-Head record
| S.No | Event | Stipulation | Winner |
| 1. | WrestleMania 38 (2022) | Singles match | Cody Rhodes |
| 2. | WrestleMania Backlash (2022) | Singles match | Cody Rhodes |
| 3. | Hell in a Cell (2022) | Hell in a Cell Match | Cody Rhodes |
| 4. | Crown Jewel (2025) | Singles match for the men’s Crown Jewel title | Seth Rollins |
Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins have battled each other on 23 separate occasions, going back to 2010 in WWE NXT. However, when it comes to broadcast shows and PLEs, they have only locked horns four times, with three of them after Rhodes’ return to WWE in 2022 and the most recent one in 2025.
Before 2022, they only met twice inside the squared circle, once at NXT in a dark match and the other during a House Show in 2012, where Rhodes defended his Intercontinental title against Rollins.
Notably, out of the 22 total matches, Rhodes has not just won the three broadcasted matches but also the remaining 19 matches, which were either Dark matches or during House shows. This means Rhodes is 22-0 against Rollins in WWE and 3-0 in televised matches.
Rhodes even reminded Rollins of this same fact on the September 22 episode of Monday Night Raw, where they hyped up their Crown Jewel 2025 clash. The two will meet again for the fourth time in a televised match. However, this time the stakes are very high in the Champion vs Champion clash.
The WWE Crown Jewel Championship was on the line in the upcoming clash, a title that debuted last week, with Cody Rhodes as the reigning champion. Rollins had a golden opportunity to register his first win over Rhodes while winning the prestigious Crown Jewel title at the marquee event. Rollins pinned Rhodes in a barn-bruner clash to register his first win.
Total matches: 04
Cody Rhodes: 03
Seth Rollins: 01
