WWE SmackDown GM could turn some heads if he gets in the ring again.

Taking on a job that has highlighted his no-nonsense style, former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis made his on-screen debut as SmackDown General Manager in October 2023. Aldis has established himself as a strong authority figure in the WWE by navigating relationships with major talents like Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and Paul Heyman in his role as general manager.

Nick Aldis is a huge name in the pro-wrestling circuit being in the industry for now well over 2 decades. So, he knows what he is doing. Few, rumors have been surfacing that SmackDown GM might be making his in-ring return. Let’s check how true is that.

Nick Aldis speaks on potential In-Ring return

There has been conjecture over Aldis’s possible comeback to in-ring competition among his GM responsibilities. Aldis addressed these allegations in a recent interview with Gorilla Position, stating that he is open to the idea but that his main emphasis is on his present duty.

“Sure. It’s tough to answer this simply because I don’t want to ever give the impression that I’m trying to angle for something or go into something for myself. It’s unavoidable,” Aldis said. “I’ve seen a ton of sentiment from fans ‘we want to see you wrestle this guy.’ I appreciate all that. It’s not something I have any control or influence over.”

Nick Aldis’ in-ring return is all in the hands of Paul “Triple H” Levesque

Aldis made it clear that his early negotiations with Paul “Triple H” Levesque focused on contributing to WWE in whatever manner was required. When the opportunity to become the General Manager of SmackDown presented, it was an easy decision.

“It’s very much a case of, when Paul [Triple H] and I first started speaking, I made it very clear that ‘I want to be part of the team and contribute in whatever way you think is best,’” Aldis explained. “If, at some point, [getting in the ring] is best then great. The GM conversation was the shortest conversation of my career. Bruce (Prichard) called me, ‘General Manager of SmackDown.’ ‘Great, when do I start?’” [H/T: eWrestlingNews]

Aldis added, “They laid out the terms and money, ‘All sounds great, let’s do it.’ Immediately, I said to my wife [Mickie James], ‘I’m going to try and be the best GM of all time.’ That’s all you can do.”

There is yet no official word on when Aldis will return to the ring. His final bout was on October 7, 2023, at the ACW Bluegrass Con, before joining WWE as a producer in August. Aldis, 37, is younger than several of WWE’s top stars, like Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and Seth Rollins, implying that he still has a chance to make a comeback in the ring.

During his career as SmackDown GM, Aldis has only been physically engaged once, when Randy Orton delivered an unexpected RKO. However, he is still willing and able to wrestle if the occasion arises. As Aldis puts it, the ultimate choice lies with Triple H and the WWE creative staff.
