A new World Champion will be crowned at SNME!

WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about premium events of the fall, with four championships on the line.

However, one of the marquee bouts, CM Punk vs Jey Uso for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship, may have been unintentionally spoiled ahead of the show in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Both Punk and Uso have shared similar career highs in 2025. They are the only two stars on Monday Night RAW to have defeated Gunther and captured the World Heavyweight Championship, each doing so at landmark WWE events.

Following Seth Rollins’ unfortunate injury that led to the title being vacated, RAW General Manager Adam Pearce booked a number-one contender’s Battle Royal, while Punk earned his spot by defeating Uso and LA Knight in a Triple Threat match earlier that night. Uso ultimately won the Battle Royal, setting the stage for a blockbuster clash against The Second City Saint for the championship.

Report suggests CM Punk could win the title

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON), CM Punk has replaced Seth Rollins in recent WrestleMania 42 promotional material. The report suggests that WWE may be positioning Punk as one of the central figures for next year’s biggest event, a move that could indicate a title win this Saturday night.

Given Punk’s drawing power and the fact that he remains one of WWE’s most marketable veterans at age 47, Meltzer believes the odds favor Punk leaving Salt Lake City as the new World Heavyweight Champion.

It’s also worth noting that the veteran was left in a heartbreaking spot at SummerSlam 2025, when Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract moments after Punk dethroned Gunther. A redemption story could very well be in the making.

Wrestling veteran thinks CM Punk shouldn’t win the title at SNME

While many expect WWE to crown CM Punk again, not everyone agrees with that direction. Wrestling veteran Scott D’Amore shared in The D’Amore Drop that he believes Punk shouldn’t win the title at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

According to D’Amore, the emotional payoff of Punk finally reclaiming gold would be much stronger if WWE allowed the chase to continue for a few more months.

D’Amore added that Punk’s character arc thrives on resilience and frustration, emotions that resonate with fans when he’s fighting from beneath rather than holding the belt. For now, though, all eyes are on Salt Lake City to see whether WWE delivers a shocking upset or follows through with what some are calling an inevitable result.

What title is on the line between CM Punk and Jey Uso?

The match is for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship, which was stripped from Seth Rollins after his injury.

Where is WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event taking place?

The event will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah, on November 1, 2025.
