Bron Breakker entered the match as a heavy favourite to win

Sami Zayn defended his Intercontinental Championship against perhaps the most difficult challenger of his reign, the fearsome Bron Breakker at 2024 WWE Money in the Bank PLE. Breakker has left a trail of destruction since his arrival on Monday Night Raw after being left out of the King of the Ring Tournament, and he is now focusing on Sami Zayn and the Intercontinental Title.

Zayn is coming off an extremely exhausting rivalry with Chad Gable, and he has no time to relax with the fierce Breakker waiting to break him in Toronto. It will be interesting to see who will win as Sami Zayn is coming into the match as the least favorite to win. But it was Sami Zayn who beat Gunther who had the greatest WWE Intercontinental Championship reign.

Sami Zayn retains his Intercontinental Championship in style

The WWE 2024 Money in the Bank event featured an intense showdown between Sami Zayn and Bron Breakker for the Intercontinental Championship. The match started with the crowd enthusiastically chanting “Ole” for Zayn, setting a high-energy tone for the bout.

Zayn and Breakker circled the ring, locking up early. Breakker quickly showcased his power with a standing slam, flipping Zayn over his shoulder. Zayn composed himself, only to be taken down again by Breakker’s lightning-fast waistlock takedown. Zayn’s demeanor shifted to seriousness as Breakker taunted him, offering a free shot. Zayn responded with a slap, igniting Breakker’s anger. Breakker drove Zayn into the corner, hitting him with shoulder thrusts. Zayn fought back with punches and elbows, eventually landing a flying elbow off the second rope.

The momentum briefly swung in Zayn’s favor, but Breakker’s raw power soon reasserted itself. After a failed Arabian Press by Zayn, Breakker’s swift reaction saved the move, and he annihilated Zayn with a Steinerline, leaving a lasting impression on the crowd. Breakker followed up with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex, showcasing his athleticism and strength.

Zayn managed to counter Breakker’s second belly-to-belly attempt with elbows to the head, transitioning into a tornado DDT for a near fall. The action spilled outside the ring, with Zayn chopping Breakker and attempting a moonsault block. Breakker caught him but Zayn slid off, driving Breakker into the ring post. Back in the ring, Zayn tried for a count-out but Breakker re-entered at eight. Zayn then attempted a diving DDT through the turnbuckles, only to be cut off by Breakker’s clothesline at ringside.

Bron Breakker kept dominating but it wasn’t enough

Breakker reasserted his dominance inside the ring, charging for a Spear. Zayn countered with a kick to the face and a Blue Thunder Bomb, nearly securing the win. Breakker powered out, however, and the two continued to trade high-impact moves. Breakker’s Frankensteiner off the top rope earned a “This is awesome!” chant from the crowd.

The intensity reached a fever pitch as Breakker mounted Zayn and punched away. Zayn rolled out to recover, but Breakker, favoring his knee, followed and launched a diving clothesline over the commentary table. Breakker’s injured knee became a target for Zayn, who capitalized with an exploder into the turnbuckles.

Zayn geared up for a Helluva Kick, but Breakker intercepted with a high knee. Breakker then executed a Gorilla Press Powerslam, pulling down the straps for another Spear attempt. However, Zayn countered with a kick to Breakker’s injured knee and immediately followed with a Helluva Kick, securing the pinfall victory.
