Will MS Dhoni play IPL in 2025? Former CSK star Suresh Raina gives one word response
MS Dhoni gave Chennai Super Kings’ captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad before IPL 2024.
Despite being 42 years old, MS Dhoni is impressing on the grand stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Though he isn’t the captain for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) this season, he excels in field play as a wicket keeper and effortlessly hitting sixes while batting, proving that age hasn’t affected his ability.
As CSK experience changes within their franchise structure, Dhoni has unselfishly moved down in the batting order allowing emerging players to showcase their skills, yet despite taking on different roles and responsibilities with CSK team this year, he remains a substantial influence in every match played thus far.
There are speculations that MS Dhoni will bid adieu to IPL after this season, considering he transferred the leadership role to Ruturaj Gaikwad before this season began. Dhoni’s struggle with a knee injury has been the major cause of concern for him this year. He was observed limping on numerous occasions throughout the season. In addition to that, Dhoni had already gone through a knee surgery post last IPL season.
While being on Jio Cinema as a commentator, Suresh Raina, who is also a former CSK player and close friend of Dhoni, was asked if there would be another season for the latter. To this query, he offered a one word yet straightforward answer: “Khelenge.”

Despite playing lower down the order this season, Dhoni has managed to score 59 runs at a strike rate of 236.00 and has hit six sixes in just 25 balls faced so far.
