All of India’s medals on the day were won in track and field.

Another successful day ensued for India at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026, with the contingent pocketing one gold medal and two silver medals on Day 6. Apart from that, six more medals have now been assured in boxing.

Dilip Gavit and Mohammed Basit Morssinganakath created history, achieving a 1-2 podium finish in the men’s 100m T47 final. This was after Murali Sreeshankar replicated his performance from the previous edition at Birmingham, clinching a silver medal.

Meanwhile, all six Indian boxers, who took the ring on Wednesday, won their respective quarter-final bouts and secured podium finishes.

Starting off on an auspicious note was Sakshi Chaudhary, who routed Caitlin Fryers of Northern Ireland, securing a unanimous victory in the women’s 51kg category.

Arundhati Choudhar, though, had her task cut out against an aggressive Morgan Henderson in women’s 70kg. The Indian eventually prevailed 3-1 (split decision).

Following that, Sachin put on a superlative show against Treasure Moremi of Botswana in the men’s 60kg quarterfinal, with another unanimous victory. So did Ankush in the Men’s 80kg event, against Jade Micock of Seychelles.

Narender lost two points as a result of warnings but eventually clinched his fixture 3-2 versus Samoa’s Michael Seko in the men’s 90kg+ section.

Finally, reigning world champion Jaismine, despite looking tentative early on, managed to get past Englishwoman Elise Glynn with a 4-1 win in the Women’s 57kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

Medal Events in which Indian athletes contested on 29th July

Dilip Gavit and Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath put on a performance set to be remembered for years to come, clinching the gold and silver medals, respectively, with timings of 10.71 and 10.83. The former shattered the Games Record in the process.

It was Basil who started off on a strong note and took a lead in the first few seconds. However, Dilip surged to clinch the top spot.

Earlier, Sreeshankar wasn’t at his best but managed to take home a silver medal from the men’s long jump event. The veteran started off with 8.03 m, placing him in third place. However, his second jump, measuring 8.09 m, catapulted him to the top.

The 26-year-old from Palakkad couldn’t improve uon this, following up with two fouls and then failing to cross the 8m mark on the last two attempts. Jamaican Tajay Gayle’s fourth jump measured 8.15m, implying that he eventually clinched gold.

Nevertheless, it was a strong performance from the Indian, who is still looking for his peak form after having spent a long time on the sidelines due to injury. Compatriot Lokesh Satyanathan finished in fifth place, failing to add further to his 7.97m jump on the first attempt.

In the women’s shot put final, Manpreet Kaur agonisingly dropped from third to fourth place, in the final round of attempts, as Jamaican Lloydricia Cameron’s throw of 17.87m, surpassed the Indian’s best attempt, measuring 17.49m.

Parul Chaudhary put on a below-par showing in the women’s 3000m steeplechase Final, finishing in fifth place with a time of 9:26.75.

The men’s discus throw F42-44/F61-64 section saw Sagar Thayat (51.79m) and Devender Kumar (48.20m) putting in their best efforts of the season.

In fact, the former broke the Asian record too. However, neither of them could eventually come into medal contention at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

On the final day for swimming, Sajan Prakash and Aneesh Gowda were eliminated in the men’s 200m freestyle heats. As a result, the men’s 50m freestyle S7 final presented the final opportunity for the nation to open its CWG 2026 account in Aquatics.

What followed was heartbreak, as Suyash Jadhav (31.63) and Chaitanya Kulkarni (33.17) ended fourth and fifth, respectively. In fact, the former was just 0.3 seconds short of finishing on the podium.

The sole Indian weightlifter of the day, Sanjana, was among the four contenders in the women’s 77kg Final to end up with a ‘DNF’ as she failed to successfully lift 94 kg in any of her three attempts in Snatch.
