R Ashwin says the pitch in Rawalpindi in the first test was an absolute road.

Senior India off-spinner R Ashwin has reacted to Pakistan’s “tired collapse” on the final day of the 1st PAK vs BAN test in Rawalpindi.

The hosts were bundled for 146 in their second innings after going from 28/1 to 118/8 as Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz snapped seven combined wickets.

This set Bangladesh a small target of 30 runs which they chased down with all 10 wickets in hand and recorded Bangladesh’s first-ever test match win over Pakistan.

Bangladesh had earlier taken a 117-run lead in the first innings through Mushfiqur Rahim’s 191-run epic knock.

Teams don’t surrender on a pitch like this: R Ashwin

R Ashwin expressed grave shock at Pakistan’s collapse on day five, pointing out that the pitch was largely flat in Rawalpindi.

In his YouTube channel, Ashwin said, “The match was in sleep mode for the first three days. Suddenly, Pakistan surprised me when I was about to catch a flight. When I saw the highlights of the match, I understood one thing. The proper, tired collapse on a final day. I haven’t seen that for a long time.

“Teams don’t surrender on a pitch like this. In first-class cricket, strong teams will bat first and hit big. The wicket will be a batting wicket. In those two days, they will pull off an all-out in a tired state. When the wicket crumbles, they will get all out again. I got that depiction. There is nothing in the pitch. It’s an absolute road.”

“In fact, in the end, Rizwan was staging a fight. I didn’t understand a thing. Naseem Shah played a shot and left cheaply. I didn’t understand what just happened. I didn’t understand a thing,” he concluded.

Pakistan had gone with a four-man pace attack and were made to rue their decision. Consequently, they have added spinner Abrar Ahmed to the squad for the second test, which will start on August 30.
