Rohit Sharma breaks Chris Gayle's record for most sixes in ICC Cricket World Cup history

Rohit Sharma smashed 47 off 29 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes against New Zealand in SF1.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has unleashed his beast mode once again in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Rohit has continued his six-hitting spree in the tournament and has gone past Chris Gayle twice in the tournament. Rohit after smashing 3 sixes against New Zealand in the semi-final at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, has now become the leading batter with the most sixes in the history of World Cup. India have got off to a flier against the Kiwis. 

Rohit Sharma has also completed 50 sixes in World Cup and has become the first and only batter to smash more than 50 sixes in the history World Cup. Rohit Sharma smashed 4 sixes against New Zealand and taken his tally to 51, two more than West Indian Chris Gayle. Chris Gayle held the record for most sixes smashed in the World Cup, as he had 49 sixes in 34 innings under his name. Rohit Sharma took only 27 innings to complete 50 World Cup sixes. 

Rohit Sharma overtook Gayle twice

Earlier, Indian captain Rohit Sharma overtook Chris Gayle in the most sixes hit in international cricket as well. Against Afghanistan, Rohit hit 5 towering sixes to leave Gayle behind. Chris Gayle held the previous record with 553 international sixes and now Rohit has got 579 sixes under his name. He is flying like a rocket in every six-hitting record as he has made it clear from his aggressive approach. 

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is a distant third with 43 sixes in 23 World Cup innings. Rohit Sharma is also closing in to become the leading batter with the most number of sixes in ODI cricket. Currently, Shahid Afridi is leading the chart with 351 sixes in 369 innings. Chris Gayle is second on the list with 331 ODI sixes in 294 innings. Rohit Sharma is not far behind as he is third on the list with 320 ODI sixes in 253 innings. 

Indian captain Rohit Sharma perished after playing a blistering knock of 47 runs in 29 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes. Rohit and Shubman Gill added 71 runs for the opening wicket in 8.2 overs. Tim Southee dismissed Rohit, who wanted to take on the pace bowler but ended up skying one and Kane Williamson took a magnificent catch closer to the long-off boundary line. The Indian captain won the toss and elected to bat first in the game.
