Suryakumar Yadav-led India won first two T20Is against Sri Lanka in Pallekele.

Indian cricket team’s newly appointed T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has opened up on the ‘brand of cricket’ his side will play under the pair of him and head coach Gautam Gambhir in the shortest format.

In his first T20I series as a full-time India captain, Suryakumar led his side to a 2-0 lead over hosts Sri Lanka in the ongoing three-match T20I series.

Men in Blue will be looking to whitewash hosts in the final match of the ongoing series at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele on July 30.

After winning the first two T20Is comprehensively against Sri Lanka, the current Indian squad has shown their clear and aggressive intent which was set by former India T20I captain Rohit Sharma and former head coach Rahul Dravid.

After winning the second T20I match by seven wickets against Sri Lanka on July 29, India’s newly appointed T20I skipper Suryakumar stated that he had a word about the brand of cricket they want to play before the start of the three-match T20I series.

“This is the template we want to go ahead with,” said Suryakumar after India’s seven-wicket win in the second T20I.

Rain helped us: Suryakumar on chasing 78 runs in 8 overs

Sri Lanka scored a 161/9 in 20 overs, but rain delayed the start of the second innings and after a brief delay, the target for the Indian cricket team was revised to 78 runs in 8 overs.

Indian batters Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya played quick fire knocks, which helped the visitors chase down the target in just 6.3 overs and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match T20I series.

Indian captain Suryakumar added that rain helped them and they wanted anything below 160 runs. He further added that they will sit and decide about testing the bench strength for the final match of the T20I series against Sri Lanka.

“With the weather around, anything below 160 would have been nice. Rain helped us. The way the boys batted was wonderful. We’ll sit and decide (when asked if they’ll test their bench strength). Very happy for the boys. Showed a lot of character in tough situations,” Suryakumar added.
