Dimas Delgado is currently serving as the assistant coach at East Bengal.
In a game-changing move this May, East Bengal FC welcomed on board Dimas Delgado, a seasoned Indian Super League (ISL) champion, as the assistant coach under Carles Cuadrat‘s mentorship. At 40, Delgado steps into this role to bolster Cuadrat’s coaching endeavours, rekindling a partnership forged on the field at Bengaluru FC.
This Spanish maestro left an indelible mark in Indian football, clinching the ISL title with Bengaluru FC in the 2018-19 season, hot on the heels of a debut-season runner-up finish. Delgado’s magic on the pitch was particularly evident in the historic moment when Rahul Bheke secured the winning goal against FC Goa in the 2018-19 ISL final—a match masterfully orchestrated by Cuadrat.
Recently, Delgado answered a few rapid fire questions which were an amalgamation of his on and off the pitch interests:
On the Pitch
ISL fans still fondly recall the captivating performances Dimas Delgado delivered on the field, notably aiding Bengaluru FC in securing the ISL title in 2018-19. However, when questioned about his preference between his player version and his current role as a coach, the Spaniard emphatically replied, “Coach.”
We frequently witness players or coaches facing questions that involve comparing two prominent figures. While the “Messi or Ronaldo” dilemma is a staple in many interviews, Delgado, being a midfield maestro himself, was posed with the choice between Iniesta and Xavi. Without hesitation, he unequivocally opted for the current FC Barcelona manager, “Xavi.”
Off the Pitch
When asked about his favourite holiday spot, the affable Dimas Delgado, promptly picked “Maldives.” It seems he’s drawn to the tranquillity of those pristine beaches.
When quizzed about his current musical fixation, the Spanish maestro grinned and revealed a penchant for the soulful rhythms of “Flamenco”. And on the road, Delgado keeps it classic with his top car choice – “BMW.” He also opted for tea when he was asked the question, “Tea or Coffee.”
