Giants have the upper hand against Puneri in the Pro Kabaddi League.

In match 84 of the Pro Kabaddi 2024 (PKL 11), the freshly revived Gujarat Giants will face reigning champions Puneri Paltan at the Noida Indoor Stadium. Gujarat Giants lost 49-30 against Puneri Paltan in the reverse game earlier in PKL 11.

Puneri Paltan started the Pro Kabaddi League 2024 (PKL 11) on the same note they finished the previous one. The defending champions of the league now have six wins, five losses and three draws from 14 matches. With 42 points, they sit sixth in the league table.

Puneri Paltan have the best defensive unit in the league. They rank at the top for team average tackle points, team successful tackle percentage, and team successful tackles. Defenders like Gaurav Khatri and Aman have stood out whereas others like Abinesh Nadaranjan and Mohit Goyat have chipped in when the team has struggled. Gaurav Khatri and Aman are in the top 10 for defenders with the most tackle points in the league this season.

In the raiding department, all-rounders and raiders have combined well to score points. Mohit Goyat, and Pankaj Mohite have been the go-to names when it comes to raiding for the defending champions. The team, like the previous seasons, have relied on the all-rounders to do the trick for them. However the loss of Aslam Inamdar had turned their season upside down.

On the other hand, Gujarat Giants sit in the second-last place on the league table with just 25 points from 13 matches. Nothing seemed to be working for the Giants as they lie last on the list of teams with the highest successful raids percentage for the season and are fifth for teams with the highest successful tackles percentage.

The team that looked like the side with the best raiding options on the mat is yet to register a Super 10. The trio of Parteek Dahiya, Guman Singh, and Rakesh Sungroya have failed, with each averaging less than five points from raids per match. The defence doesn’t seem too strong as well as the likes of Sombir, Jitender Yadav and Rohit have struggled for consistency.

Puneri Paltan vs Gujarat Giants: Head-to-Head record:

Matches: 15

Puneri Paltan: 6

Gujarat Giants: 8

Tie: 1

The Giants have enjoyed an upper hand in the dual between the two teams. However, it would be difficult to see that happening this season given the poor run of results from the Giants and the stellar form that the Paltans are in. The two sides haven’t played each other in the knockout stage of the tournament yet.
