Jannik Sinner's journey to Wimbledon 2025 final

The World No. 1 is aiming for his first ever title at Wimbledon.
Jannik Sinner might be the top seed, but his draw wasn’t an easy one. The Italian had to contend with several challenges, both physical and mental. His previous Grand Slam appearance ended in a heartbreak in the finals, and his preparation leading to the Championship wasn’t ideal, as he lost his second round in Halle.
But the champion spirit of the World No. 1 was in full effect during his campaign at the grass-court Slam, as he overcame an elbow injury and scars from past battles, to reach his maiden Wimbledon final. Let’s take a look at his historic campaign so far.

First Round – Luca Nardi
An all-Italian match to kickstart things for Sinner, ended rather quickly as the top seed did not have to spend long hours on court against Luca Nardi. His counterpart had played most matches in challenger events this season, and Sinner’s dominance could be seen in the final scoreline, which consisted of a bagel.
Second Round – Alexander Vukic
This was yet another easy round for the World No. 1 who cruised past Alexander Vukic, dropping just five games in the process. The Australian was unable to break Sinner’s serve, as the Italian continued his trouble-free journey at Wimbledon 2025.
Third Round – Pedro Martínez
The injured Pedro Martínez wasn’t much of a challenge either for the reigning Australian Open and US Open champion. Sinner brushed aside the Spaniard, dropping only five games, and maintaining his streak of not being broken in the Championship so far.
Fourth Round – Grigor Dimitrov
After three one-sided and comfortable victories, Jannik Sinner and the tennis fraternity were left stunned and later saddened, at the end of his encounter. After a tight opening game hold, Grigor Dimitrov landed the first punch, breaking Sinner for the first time in the competition.
What followed was unexpected, as the Bulgarian dominated with his powerful serving, and Sinner found trouble with his forehand, and seemed to injure his elbow.
Dimitrov held a 2-0 lead and was a set away from producing a massive upset. But then, he slipped during a point and developed a pectoral injury ruling him out of the clash.
Reports later confirmed that the 19th seed will be out of action for weeks, and potentially ready for US Open 2025. The Italian truly survived a scare and lived to fight another day.
Quarter-final – Ben Shelton
There was uncertainty surrounding Sinner’s availability for his quarter-final, as he skipped practice the previous day and arrived with a strapped elbow, raising doubts about his fitness. However, what followed was 2 hours and 30 minutes of relentless, ruthless domination.
Sinner dismissed all injury concerns with his explosive forehand winners and exceptional court coverage. While the American occasionally escaped danger with big serves, he failed to capitalize on crucial moments and ultimately fell in straight sets to the World No. 1.
Semi-final – Novak Djokovic
Jannik Sinner booked his maiden Wimbledon final spot in emphatic style, dismantling an injured Novak Djokovic in straight sets. The 23-year-old showcased his all-court prowess and mental fortitude to outclass the seven-time champion.

Final: Carlos Alcaraz (TBP)
Sinner enters the Wimbledon final as an underdog against Carlos Alcaraz, having lost their last five meetings. Overcoming the Spaniard—who enjoys crowd support, has a supreme grass-court form, and unmatched mental toughness in fifth sets and tiebreaks — will be an enormous challenge.

Sinner, still managing an elbow injury that could affect his forehand extension, must deliver a near-perfect performance to halt Alcaraz’s London reign. Given Sinner’s shaky record in deciding sets, it would take nothing short of a miracle to dethrone the defending champion.
