WWE SmackDown or Friday Night SmackDown is one of the two weekly television events of WWE, which is held every Friday. It is one of the most successful pro-wrestling shows in the wrestling industry since 1999. With more than 24 years of successful hosting, it has produced some of the greatest moments. Here we list the top 10 greatest SmackDown moments in history

10. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn Reunion

After Sami Zayn came out of the Bloodline, by battling against them. Kevin Owens didn’t accept Sami Zayn. Sami Zayn was confronted by Jey Uso, when The Usos attacked Zayn, Kevin Owens came to the aid of Sami Zayn by cleaning the ring by taking down The Usos. Owens then hugged Sami Zayn to reunite for one more time with a great pop from the crowd.

9. Kofi Kingston WWE Championship run to Wrestlemania 35

This entire journey of Kofi to WrestleMania 35 was so great. On Feb 12, 2019, when WWE Champion Daniel Bryan was in the ring, Kofi announced his entry to Elimination Chamber. Kofi wrestled in a Gauntlet match the same day to enter as the last member. Kofi defeated the WWE Champion in the first round, Jeff Hardy in the second, Samoa Joe in the third, but lost to AJ Styles in the fourth match. Kofi delivered a tough fight at Elimination Chamber but failed to capture the championship.

Kofi and The New Day requested for another chance for the title to Vice McMahon, where Vince asked him to prove his potential. Kofi was again put into a Gauntlet match, where he lost in the final round to Daniel Bryan. When New Day thought of leaving WWE, McMahon put New Day into a Tag Team Gauntlet Match, where if Big E & Xavier win, Kofi will be given a title shot at WrestleMania against Daniel Bryan. Where New Day won and made Kofi wrestle for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35.

8. Booker T vs Steve Austin in the Grocery Store Brawl

On December 13, 2001, Booker T went to a Supermarket following Stone Cold Steve Austin and attacked a man who looked like Austin from behind. When Booker realized that he was not him, Austin attacked him from behind and threw Booker on the groceries and charged him at the counter. This is one of the unforgettable moments in the history of SmackDown and has been remembered for generations.

7. SmackDown debuts on FOX

WWE SmackDown was moved to Fox Network and the debut episode was on the 20th anniversary of the blue brand. This is one of the greatest episodes of SmackDown, where the show started wit Becy Lynch & Rock kicking Baron Corbin. The Fiend assaulted Rollins, Owens fired Shane McMahon, The Undefeated Boxer “Gypsy King” Tyso Fury had a face off with Braun Strowman, Brock Lesnar squashed Kofi to win the WWE Championship & Cain Velasquez debuted & attacked Lesnar.

6. Charlotte Flair becomes 14 times World Champion

On December 30, 2022, Rousey successfully defended her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Raquel Rodriguz. After the match, when Rousey took the microphone to deliver a message, Charlotte Flair returned and challenged Flair for a Smackdown Women’s Championship match. Rousy accepted for an impromptu match, where Flair defeated Rousey too quickly by rollup to become the 14-time Women’s World Champion. 

5. Big Show vs Brock Lesnar with the ring imploding

On the June 12, 2003 episode of SmackDown, Brock Lesna and Big Show went for a singles match, where Brock Lesnar perplexed Big Show from the top rope, which collapsed the ring. This is one of the most matched wrestling moments of all time in the past 20 years.

4. Jey Uso “out of The Bloodline”

Jimmy Uso superkicked Roman Reigns and cost them their Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship match at Night of Champions. Two weeks after, on June 16, 2023 The Bloodline assembled in the middle of the ring to know which side does Jey Uso stand & whether Jimmy is in or out of the group. Jey Uso investigated the issue and said Jimmy is “out” and so does he to Superkick Roman Reigns. They took Solo Sikoa and Roman with a double superkick. 

3. John Cena’s debut

On June 27, 2002 Kurt Angle issued an open challenge to the SmackDown locker room. Where John Cena made his WWE debut in response to Kurt Angle’s and stood face to face against him. Kurt asked what’s the one thing that made him stand face-to-face with the Olympic Gold Medalist, Cena said “Ruthless Aggression” and went to fight straight away. Although Cena lost his debut match, he delivered a tough fight against the olympian and earned the respect of veterans and fans.

2. Batista drafted to SmackDown

On June 30, 2005, Teddy Long made a Six-Man Elimination match for the inaugural SmackDown Championship, after both WWE Champion & World Heavyweight Champion were drafted to the Raw brand. JBL won the match and Teddy Long came to the ring with the new championship in the hand put in a black bag. Long said that he has good and bad news for him. 

Long said that even though JBL won the match he will not be the SmackDown Champion as the title seems unnecessary. Instead JBL earned the #1 Championship spot for the championship and introduces the first pick of SmackDown in the WWE Lottery Pick, the World Heavyweight Champion Batista.

On May 11, 2007, The Undertaker defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Batista in a Steel Cage match, where the match ended in a draw, as both landed on the floor at the same time. After the match, Mark Henry attacked him and laid him on the middle of the ring, where Edge came with the Money in the Bank Briefcase and cashed it on The Undertaker. He speared the Phenom and won the World Heavyweight Championship for the very first time.
