Margot Robbie is one of the biggest movie stars worldwide
John Cena is one of the world’s most recognized professional wrestlers, so it’s no surprise that he’s amassed a slew of celebrity followers along the road, including none other than Hollywood star Margot Robbie. In an old interview with Chris Van Vliet, Margot Robbie said that Cena remains her favourite wrestler, even humorously mentioning his iconic catchphrase.
Robbie said, “He is [still my favourite]. He is so worth the hype, he is the best. I love him, I really love him, even though you can’t see him.”
Margot Robbie’s teenage boyfriend was a huge fan of John Cena
Robbie’s fondness for Cena is not a new thing. Robbie, who appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live with Cena and James Gunn in 2021, discussed her long-standing wrestling love. She said that her initial interest in WWE came in her infancy as a fan of The Undertaker. However, her enthusiasm for wrestling decreased as she grew older.
Interestingly, a romance in her late teens and early twenties revived her interest in WWE, notably John Cena. Robbie’s boyfriend at the time was a huge Cena fan, which had an unusual effect on her.
“But then, as a late teen, early 20s, I had a boyfriend who was obsessed with John Cena — so much so that he dressed as John Cena for his 21st birthday, and [he] had a cardboard cut-out of John Cena in his bedroom. So I slept in a room for two years with a life-size cardboard cut-out of John Cena in the room.”
This unusual experience left a lasting impression on Robbie. When she was cast alongside Cena in “The Suicide Squad,” she found herself in a humorous predicament about whether to share this piece of her past.
“And I remember thinking, ‘I wonder if now that I’m going to work with Cena, should I tell him this or is that going to be weird?’” Robbie recalled. “And I thought, ‘I’m just going to keep that to myself. I’m not going to tell him. That’d be a weird way to start our working relationship.’ And then five seconds into meeting him, I’m like, ‘I used to sleep in a room with a life-size cut-out of you.’”
