“Rowdy” didn’t hold back against WWE
Ronda Rousey has never been one to mince words, and her new autobiography, Our Fight, pulls no punches when it comes to her WWE experience. Describing the company as a “minimum effort lazy-ass s*** show,” Rousey details her frustrations and disillusionment with her tenure in WWE, culminating in her departure following her match against Shayna Baszler at last year’s SummerSlam.
Rousey’s dissatisfaction with WWE began long before her exit. After her initial stint, she returned with high hopes and specific plans for her character’s trajectory, particularly desiring a high-profile match against Becky Lynch at WrestleMania. However, those plans never materialized, leading to mounting frustrations as WWE continued to pursue their own direction, often disregarding her creative input.
Ronda Rousey speaks on her emotional conversation with Triple H
In her book Our Fight, Rousey recounts a particularly emotional conversation with WWE executive Triple H. Her vision was clear: she wanted to form a tag team with Shayna Baszler, have Baszler turn on her, and ultimately put Baszler over before her departure. This storyline was a personal and professional goal for Rousey, one she was determined to see through before her exit at SummerSlam. However, WWE’s reluctance to follow her proposed storyline added to her growing discontent.
“Listen, I told you I’d be here until SummerSlam,” Rousey recounted telling Triple H. “And I’m a woman of my word, but I’m done after this. All I wanted when I got into this business was to tag with Shayna, have her turn on me, then put her over before I leave.
We have until SummerSlam to make that happen. After that, I’m done being associated with this minimum-effort lazy-ass s***show.” The exchange, charged with emotion, revealed Rousey’s deep-seated frustrations. Triple H’s sympathetic response, shifting from authoritative to a more personal tone, underscored the strain Rousey felt.
“But how are you?” Triple H asked sincerely. This simple, compassionate question broke through Rousey’s tough exterior, leading her to an emotional breakdown. “I’m so tired,” she responded, tears flowing. “I’m so tired that I feel like it’s changing my personality. I’m so much more anxious, stressed, negative, like butter scraped over too much bread.”

Rousey also detailed her physical and emotional exhaustion, saying, “I’m so tired that I feel like it’s changing my personality. I’m so much more anxious, stressed, negative like butter scraped over too much bread.” This candid revelation highlights the intense pressure she felt during her WWE tenure, impacting her well-being significantly.
Adding to her grievances, Rousey wanted the same travel privileges as top star Roman Reigns, a request that was not granted. This disparity only fueled her disillusionment, leading to her scathing critique of the company’s management and booking strategies.
Rousey’s blunt remarks have inevitably led to backlash, with some labeling her as a bitter former employee. Despite the criticism, it’s clear that her WWE experience left a profound impact on her, driving her to focus on other career avenues.
