Stone Cold Steve Austin last appeared at WrestleMania 38
The likelihood of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin returning at WrestleMania 41 has sparked much speculation in the wrestling community, particularly following his conspicuous absence from WrestleMania 40.
The main match featured Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, with surprise cameos from The Rock, John Cena, and The Undertaker. However, fans couldn’t help but notice that one of WWE’s most iconic figures was missing from the show.
Austin’s absence was especially remarkable given the widespread assumption that he would appear at WrestleMania 40. Many people believed that a segment involving The Undertaker was originally scheduled for Austin, which made his absence even more shocking.
The Texas Rattlesnake has always been a fan favorite, and his appearance at each WWE event brings a level of excitement and nostalgia that few other performers can equal.
Recently, Austin addressed the rumors during an appearance on Unlikely with Adrian Hernandez. He confirmed that his participation at WrestleMania 40 was indeed a close call, but personal commitments ultimately kept him from being in Philadelphia.
“Oh, it was close. And they certainly reached out to me, and we had conversations, but my wife and I had some things going on that I didn’t need to go to Philly at that time,” Austin revealed. “But I have said — I missed that Mania. And god dang, Philly was a good town for me back in the day, and I appreciate those fans.”
His words hint at a genuine consideration of making an appearance at WrestleMania 40, but life circumstances prevented it. Austin has always been known for his authenticity and dedication to the business, so it’s no surprise that he was disappointed about missing the show. Still, his comments also suggest that he’s far from done with WWE and its marquee events.
Looking ahead to WrestleMania 41, which is set to take place in Las Vegas, Austin has once again teased the possibility of appearing. “Couldn’t make it down on that one, but WrestleMania this year is in Vegas. And I was doing an interview a while back, and I said, ‘Hey man’ — and that’s 400 miles. That’s like right here, where we’re sitting. Right down the road.”
Las Vegas has a special attraction for Austin, and its closeness to his current position makes it an easy choice for a future performance. However, while Austin has hinted at his involvement, he is wary of making any guarantees, especially regarding returning to the ring.
In recent months, he has made it apparent that he believes he has nothing more to show in terms of in-ring combat. After all, Austin’s reputation has already been established as one of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time, and any comeback would be more about entertaining the fans than proving anything to himself or others.
