WWE Hall of Famer rates John Cena's WWE farewell tour ‘C’ Grade; claims heel turn made it worse

John Cena’s farewell tour is in its final stretch.
The 17-time WWE World Champion, John Cena, kicked off his ‘Farewell Tour’ during the Raw Netflix debut in January, with one goal in mind to capture the World title and break the tie with Ric Flair to become the one and only 17-time World Champion.
In his quest to capture the title, Cena, for the first time, turned heel, joining hands with The Rock at Elimination Chamber, a moment that sent shockwaves through the fandom. A heel turn, which was not received well due to poor storytelling and the absence of the mastermind, The Rock.
Since then, Cena has turned face, dropping the title to Cody Rhodes in the main event of SummerSlam 2025. There are now only five dates left on his farewell tour, after which Cena will hang up his wrestling boots for good. WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff recently shared his thoughts on Cena’s farewell tour.
Eric Bischoff believes the heel run spoiled John Cena’s farewell tour
During a recent episode of his 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff expressed his opinion on the much-talked-about John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar match from Wrestlepalooza.
“If the story going forward is as you previously laid out, and this ends up with John and Brock in John’s final match, and John finally overcomes, it’s a redemption story,
I love redemption stories, they always work for me. If it’s a Disney redemption story, I’ll actually shed a tear or two. If there’s a dog involved, I’ll be a bawling idiot. So, I hope that that is the case. If it’s not the case, and it was just what they did that night, that would be worrisome to me.
If it’s part of a story, I think it’d be a great story, because redemptions always work. If it wasn’t part of the story and it was, ‘Well, here’s what we’re going to do tonight, and why?’ Ennh, not good. But we’ll find out.”
Bischoff also shared his overall assessment of Cena’s retirement tour, giving it a ‘C’ grade. He mentioned that without the heel turn, the tour would likely have earned a B, possibly even an A- or a B grade.
“I’d give it a C, Now, if you take the heel turn or whatever that was, take that out and just look at the rest of it, probably a B, maybe an A- or a B.
It’s been pretty good, except for the way it started. Just give everybody what they want, to see the guy go out on top. Everybody would love to see Babe Ruth hit his last home run. Nobody wants to see Babe Ruth strike out. Know what I mean? If you could go back in time.
How many people would say, ‘I want to go back in time. I want to be there when Babe Ruth grabs his last at bat, but I want to see him strike out.’ No. Same thing here.”
The farewell tour will culminate in December

Cena’s WWE farewell run is expected to culminate in his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 in Washington, D.C. It remains to be seen whether WWE chooses to go for the redemption story as Bischoff hopes or in a different direction.
The 17-time World Champion is currently set to battle one of his fierce rivals, AJ Styles, in a singles match at the upcoming Crown Jewel, which is set for Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia, Australia.
