Kagiso Rabada breaks Lasith Malinga's all-time IPL record
Kagiso Rabada completed 100 IPL wickets in 64 matches.
Punjab Kings pacer Kagiso Rabada has bagged a significant milestone by becoming the fastest to snare 100 wickets. The South African speedster reached the landmark by dismissing Gujarat Titans opener Wriddhiman Saha at the I.S. Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
Rabada, drafted in by the Punjab Kings for Nathan Ellis, reached the milestone in his 64th game, going past Lasith Malinga, who accomplished the feat in his 70th IPL appearance. SunRisers Hyderabad seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the fastest Indian to the landmark and is the third quickest overall. Rashid Khan (83), Amit Mishra (83), and Ashish Nehra (83) tie for the fourth spot, while Yuzvendra Chahal (84) rounds the top five.
Titans elected to field first and did a commendable job with the ball, restricting them to 153 in 20 overs. Matthew Short, making his IPL debut in the game, top-scored with 36 off 24 deliveries. The likes of Jitesh Sharma, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Sam Curran, and Shahrukh Khan got starts, but couldn't convert it into a big score.
Kagiso Rabada-led bowlng attack struggle against the Titans
Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings haven't been able to make any significant inroads in their defence of a modest 153. Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha started well with a 48-run stand in 4.4 overs. While they removed B Sai Sudharsan and Hardik Pandya cheaply, the defending champions were well ahead in the game.
The Titans came into this game on the back of a stunning loss against the Kolkata Knight Riders as Rinku Singh hammered five sixes in the last five deliveries to chase down a total of over 200. Pandya, who did not play that game, has returned for the ongoing one. Punjab Kings also suffered a comprehensive loss to the SunRisers Hyderabad as Shikhar Dhawan's 99 not out went in vain.
