Shreyas Iyer was left out of India squad after first two matches against England in the ongoing five-match test series.
Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has reportedly declared himself fit and available for the upcoming semi-final of the Ranji Trophy 2024 for his state side Mumbai. Earlier, BCCI secretary Jay Shah issued a strong statement to the centrally contracted players to play for their state teams in the Ranji Trophy.
The middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer was left out of the Indian squad for the final three test matches against Ben Stokes-led England in the ongoing five-match series. In the first two test matches in Hyderabad and Vizag, the right-handed batter had a horrible outing, where he failed to register even a single fifty in the four innings he batted.
It is to be noted that, according to reports, Shreyas Iyer complained of back pain while batting in the second test against England in Vizag, and hence he was excused from Mumbai’s last two Ranji Trophy matches. But the BCCI didn’t give the same reason while excluding Iyer from India squad for final three tests against England.
According to same media reports, Iyer also told Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) about his unavailability due to back spasm, but the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) stated in an email to the BCCI and national selectors that Iyer was ‘fit.’
According to recent reports from Times of India, Indian batter Shreyas Iyer informed the MCA that he is fit and available for Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy 2023-24 semi-final match against Tamil Nadu.
“Yes, Iyer has confirmed to the Mumbai Cricket Association that he is fit now and available for Mumbai’s semi-final match,” a source in BCCI told Times of India in anonymity.
In the Ranji Trophy 2023–24 quarter-final match, Mumbai played out a draw against Baroda but qualified for the semi-finals on the basis of the first-innings lead. Mumbai will now face Tamil Nadu in the second semi-final from March 2nd at the Mumbai Cricket Association’s BKC ground in Bandra.
