Jammu Kashmir Professional Football League 2021: Fixtures, results, standings & more

This is the first-ever edition of the state league and the top two teams will qualify for the Second Division League.

The Jammu Kashmir Professional Football League 2021 is taking place at Srinagar. A total of eight football teams from the region are taking part in the league, which started on July 12, 2021.

The Jammu Kashmir Football Association (JAKFA) is in charge of the league and all the games are being played at Synthetic Turf TRC in Srinagar. There will be a total of 28 matches, as all the teams will play once against each other in a round-robin format. The team with the most points will win the league in the end.

Apart from the winning side, the runners-up also stand to gain from the league as both teams will qualify for the Second Division League.

“Due to COVID-19, there were no football matches taking place here. For two years, the sport had come to a halt. This time we have started a professional league, and this is the first time that this is happening in Jammu & Kashmir," Fayaz Ahmad, the District President of Football Association Srinagar told ANI.

He further added, "J&K Bank and Real Kashmir, who are two of the best teams in the region, are taking part. From next year, we will have more teams in it and this professional league will take place every year now. We want 10 teams to participate in it going forward."

Ahmad has also promised that all the games will be played on a fully professional level, with everyone required to follow COVID-19 protocols compulsorily. Due to the pandemic, only a limited number of spectators will be allowed into the venue.

Various footballers have also praised the association's decision to organize the league. “The Jammu Kashmir Professional Football League is a very big opportunity for footballers coming from Kashmir. This is a welcome step, and we hope that more and more tournaments are organised. We want players to get exposure,” said Tahfeem Tariq, formerly of Lonestar Kashmir FC.
