The Indian Super League player draft held in Mumbai last month was a record-breaking day on many fronts. While the average pay package of many Indian players rose many folds, the draft also saw the franchises pick up some young talents in the developmental player quota.

One such surprise pick at the fag end of the day was Jamshedpur FC assistant coach Ishfaq Ahmed going for young striker Siddharth Singh. Lot of the scribes present there had to immediately google for information as nobody knew much about him.

Mumbai lad Singh has had quite a journey in football so far. Having started early Siddharth was first noticed while playing for Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai where he was one of the most notable players for the team. While representing his school Singh also got a chance to train at Arsenal FC after he was picked up through a national level scouting event.

Siddharth Singh has had stints in the UK, Moldova and Australia

When quizzed about how he felt when he heard that he would be debuting in the ISL for Jamshedpur FC, the young striker said, “I am super excited. I always wanted to be a part of the ISL. I want to prove myself and make this opportunity count.”

Siddharth harnessed  his football prowess while he was studying in England and representing the Nottingham University football team. “I had the great privilege to train under former England international Garry Charles while at Nottingham University,” quipped the 5ft 7 inch attacker who can double up as a winger as well as a striker.

“I followed the English Premier League closely through my childhood and its a dream to be coached by a man like Steve Coppell. I look forward to learning a lot from him and breaking into the Indian football scene, “added the ISL debutant.

After completing his college education Siddharth had a few stints abroad. An abrupt journey in Moldova followed by a stint in the local league in Melbourne under an Italian coach proved handy for the Mumbai lad who wants to focus more on his team’s performance.
