Mexico predicted lineup for Copa America 2024
The El Tri will face Jamaica in the opening match.
Mexico is one of the top footballing nations in the Copa America. Their most impressive results came in the 1993 and 2001 editions of the competition when they finished as runners-up. Since then, they have not played in a major final in this competition.
This year, they hope to go further. Drawn in Group B, Mexico will face Ecuador, Jamaica, and Venezuela. They kick off their campaign against Jamaica at NRG Stadium, looking to make an excellent start.
Mexico Predicted Lineup (Formation: 4-3-3)
GK: Julio Gonzalez
Julio Gonzalez is a dedicated goalkeeper who had to wait patiently for his chance. He made his debut for the team in a friendly against Bolivia, keeping a clean sheet. Gonzalez’s real test came in his last match against Brazil, where he conceded three goals. Now, he has the chance to cement his place in the team.
RB: Jorge Sánchez
Jorge Sánchez had an excellent season on loan at FC Porto, making 14 appearances. From the right, he provided a real outlet, constantly pressing forward to join in team attacks. He is very good at defending due to his pace, which limits the opposition’s chances. Sánchez is one of the most talented one-on-one defenders in the squad.
CB: César Montes
César Montes has developed into an impressive defender and is one of the most trusted players at the back. Montes is comfortable playing out from the back and is not afraid to challenge. He is probably the most experienced defender in the team, reading the game perfectly and anticipating play to break it up. Montes has already made 45 appearances for the team and aims for a pivotal role.
CB: Johan Vásquez
Johan Vásquez, who plays for Genoa in Serie A, has emerged as an impressive defender. He provides valuable experience at the back after learning his trade in a country known for defensive play. Vásquez made his debut in 2019 and has since made 23 appearances, scoring one goal.
LB: Gerardo Arteaga
Gerardo Arteaga has made the left-back position his own with impressive performances. He already has 24 appearances and one goal. Arteaga played the full 90 minutes in recent friendlies, continuing his impressive form for the national team. Despite a challenging season with Monterrey, he can be proud of his individual performance.
CM: Erick Sánchez
Erick Sánchez is a versatile player who covers several midfield positions, even playing as a striker and winger. This season, he made 41 appearances for Pachuca, scoring and assisting nine times. Sánchez also helped his team win the Concacaf Champions Cup against Columbus Crew, displaying magnificently in the middle of the park.
CM: Edson Álvarez
Edson Álvarez has been a force for the national team, guiding them to the final of the Concacaf Gold Cup, which they eventually lost to the USA. Álvarez had an impressive campaign with West Ham in the Premier League, filling the void left by Declan Rice. He made 31 appearances, scoring one goal and adding another.

CM: Luis Chávez
Luis Chávez is an excellent addition to the team, proving his versatility with over 31 appearances and four goals. Chávez had a good season with Dinamo Moscow in Russia, helping the team mount a serious title challenge, though they fell short by one point to Zenit.
RW: Uriel Antuna
Uriel Antuna enjoyed a fantastic campaign with Cruz Azul, finishing the season with 15 goals and 6 assists. His ability to attack opposition box spaces and find teammates with the right pass makes him invaluable. Antuna has already made 62 appearances for the national team, scoring 14 goals.
ST: Santiago Gimenez
Santiago Gimenez is a typical number nine who brings clinical prowess to the team. He is dangerous from set-pieces, with his tall physique making him a threat in the air. Gimenez excelled at taking chances, scoring an impressive 26 goals in 41 matches for Feyenoord, helping them finish second in the Eredivisie.
LW: Alexis Vega
Alexis Vega has proven himself a smart addition to the national team after a stellar season with Toluca in Liga MX. He netted six goals and added five assists. Vega is a versatile player, comfortable in any position the manager asks him to play. His use of the line and space makes him a dangerous weapon, and he is not shy about taking on defenders with his pace and trickery.
