Formula 1: McLaren to bring back iconic Chrome livery for British GP

McLaren's last Championship win came in 2008 with Lewis Hamilton driving a F1 car in chrome and Vodafone-sponsored livery.
It's no secret that in this day and age, McLaren's iconic papaya colour scheme has become the symbol of the racing giant. However, there is another livery that McLaren fans adore and have been longing to see make a comeback — the Vodafone chrome livery. Now, in a recent development, it looks like that McLaren is reviving the iconic chrome livery in collaboration with their sponsor, Google, for the upcoming race at Silverstone.
The buzz started when McLaren subtly changed their social media profile picture to feature a chrome-themed McLaren logo, catching the attention of avid fans and sparking excitement and speculation about the return of the beloved livery.
Adding to the excitement, McLaren released a short video featuring Lando Norris, visibly intrigued by something outside the frame. The caption accompanying the post teased, "What has Lando Norris seen? All will be revealed..."
The return of the chrome livery is likely attributed to McLaren's longstanding partnership with Google. This is because the popular web browser, Google Chrome, shares the same name, making this a clever tie-in with their sponsor's branding. The chrome livery will not only appeal to fans but also serve as a nostalgic symbol of a golden era in Formula 1.
McLaren's last outing with chrome livery
Looking back at McLaren's history, the racing giant last showcased the chrome/silver livery back in 2015, albeit for a brief period before transitioning to a sleek black design later that year. In 2017, the team switched to the vibrant papaya orange as their primary colour, which has since become their hallmark. However, the return of the chrome livery will evoke nostalgia and rekindle excitement among fans.
With the confirmation of McLaren's plans to bring back the chrome livery and the recent upgrades which helped Lando Norris finish fourth for the first time this year at the Austrian GP, fans eagerly await the return of the old dominant McLaren.
