This is the first meeting between both player on ATP Tour.

Jannik Sinner’s remarkable start to the 2024 season continues unabated. The Italian maestro is riding a 15-match winning streak, with a total of 18 victories stretching back to last season’s Davis Cup. On Tuesday, he delivered a masterclass against local favorite Ben Shelton at the Indian Wells Open 2024.

Sinner expertly neutralized Shelton’s powerful game to secure a 7-6(4), 6-1 victory in just 1 hour and 38 minutes. This triumph also marked Sinner’s 150th win on hard courts, a milestone that distinguishes him as the first player born since 2000 to reach such a feat.

On a quest for his third consecutive title in 2024, following successes at the Australian Open and Rotterdam, Sinner has amassed an impressive 35 wins in his last 37 matches since his fourth-round departure at the 2023 US Open. A victory here would bestow upon him his second ATP Masters 1000 title, adding to his triumph in Toronto last August.

Jiri Lehecka, too, has savored early success in his 2024 campaign, clinching the Adelaide International in January for his inaugural ATP Tour title. The Czech player ascended into the top 25, achieving a career-high ranking of No. 23 on January 15th, and subsequently made a quarter-final showing in Dubai.

For Lehecka, it was a moment of retribution as he overcame Andrey Rublev at Indian Wells in their round of 32 encounter, rectifying his defeat at the same venue last year. The World No. 32 then orchestrated an upset over Stefanos Tsitsipas, setting up his inaugural clash with Sinner.

Lehecka is marking his inaugural quarter-final appearance at Indian Wells on his second attempt, boasting a commendable 4-1 win-loss record at the venue. In contrast, Sinner, the 2023 semifinalist, holds a formidable 9-2 record. The victor of the Lehecka-Sinner clash will face either Alexander Zverev or the reigning champion, Carlos Alcaraz, in the subsequent round.

Reflecting on the 2023 edition, Lehecka’s journey was cut short in the round of 64 by Andrey Rublev. However, he has redeemed himself this year by eliminating Rublev early in the 2024 tournament. Sinner, with greater experience at Indian Wells Masters, is participating in his fourth main draw. After reaching the semifinals in 2023, the Italian is likely eager for a potential rematch with Alcaraz.
