WWE NXT Heatwave Results & Winners (August 22, 2023): Hayes retained the NXT Championship.
Rhea & Dom suffered a loss, Hayes retains the NXT Championship, NXT Heritage Cup back to Meta-Four and much more!!!
NXT Heatwave is one of the special live events of the black and yellow brand of this summer. The 2023 NXT Heatwave is said to be aired live from WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida featuring some of the promising matches. Here is a detailed match summary on what happened throughout the show along with results and winners list.
Match Summary
Ilja Dragunov vs Trick Williams
The moment after the bell rings, Dragunov had his hands on Trick. He hit some of the hardest chops and slaps on Trick slowing his momentum right from the start. He drives him corner to corner with hard chops to the chest. Trick Williams somehow gained a momentum with a drop kick and a drop down. Dragunov however took the momentum again with a Suplex outside the ring.
After the commercial, Dragunav was in control with rapid chops to Tricks chest. Trick caught Dragunov’s hands and hit him right on the face. Both exchanged hands with back to back strikes, but Trick had the upper hand and sent Dragunov to the ground. Dragunov fired up and asked for more, where Trick sends Dragunov face first to the ground and hit him with a massive knee to the head. Trick went for a cover but it’s not enough.
Trick tried to lift Dragunov, but he countered with a couple of DDT’s. Dragunov then took the fight to the top ropes, but backfired him as Trick hit Dragunov with a Rock Bottom from the top rope. He again went for the cover but couldn’t able to pin him. Dragunov then turned the momentum on his side and hit him with a elbow to the face and went for a cover but Trick kicked out. He then jumped from the ropes for a flying elbow strike to the throat of Trick. Which made Dragunov pick up the win via pinfall.

Ivy Nile vs Ava
The moment since the bell rang, Ava had the control of the match as Ivy was distracted by other members of Schism, who surrounded the ring. Ava hit her with a cheap shot to the back of her head, went for a couple of powerslams and back leg kick to drop her down. However when Ava life Ivy to her shoulders, she converted it into a submission maneuver and made Ava tap. After the match, the masked members of the Schism surrounded Nile, but she hit them with a suplex and locked Ava to the submission, which made them retreat after saving Ava.
Winner: Ivy Nile Ratings: 3/5
Undisputed NXT Heritage Cup Champion- Nathan Frazer vs Naom Dar
Round 1: Naom Dar had the initial control of the match for the first half of the first round with locking the hands and neck of Nathan Frazer. However Frazer locked his neck but Dar countered his moves. Both tried to hit each other and went for back to back rollup, but countered. Which ended the first round without a pinfall.
Round 2: The Round two held between the commercial, where Tyler Bate (who came to support Frazer) was attacked by Dabba-Kato, which caused distraction and made Naom Dar pick the first fall making it (1-0).
Round 3: Frazer tried everything to neutralize the lead. He was fired up right from the start of the Round 3 and went for a reverse DDT, Shooting star and tried to cover now and then. But the round ended without a fall. However Dar hit him with an elbow after the bell.
Round 4: Frazer took control of the round with a Shooting Star, Super-plex and a Neck breaker and neutralized the score by taking the second fall making it (1-1).
Round 5: Round 5 went during the commercial, where at the last 20 seconds Frazer tried to pin Dar, but the other members of the Meta-Four stopped Frazer while Referee is distracted.
Round 6: Both had a tough fight in the final round, where Dar locked Frazer into a leg lock, but Frazer escaped. Frazer went to the top ropes for a Phoenix’s splash but Meta-Four distracts him, which made him land on the floor. Dar then hit him with an Elbow for the win to become the NXT Heritage Cup Champion for the third time.
Winner: Naom Dar Ratings: 3.5/5
Mixed Tag Team Match
Dominik Mysterio and Dragon Lee started the match, where both countered each others move. Dom hit the first shot with an elbow to the chest of Lee. Rhea and Lyra then tagged in and countered their moves, Rhea measured Lyra for an Amigo (Vertical Suplex) but Lyra stoped her with rapid strikes and slaps. Which took Rhea roll out, Dom tried to distract Lyra but Lee drop kicked Dom sending him out. Lee went for a Suicide Dive and Lyre with a sliding kick.
After the commercial, Rhea had the control of the match by locking Lyra between her legs. Rhea then hit Lyra with a vertical suplex and when going for another Lyra countered it by landing on her legs and with a roundhouse kick. Dom and Lee tagged-in, where Lee was fired up and took Dom with a Powerbomb and for the pinfall, but Rhea stopped the count. Rhea then took Lyra through the barricade. When Ref was busy with Dom and Lee, Raquel came out of nowhere and took Rhea out. Dom got distracted, which made Lee pick up the win.
Winner: Dragon Lee & Lyra Valkyria Ratings: 3.5/5
Von Wagner vs Baron Corbin
Wagner marched his way to the ring with Mr. Stone, but was attacked by Baron Corbin from the back. They both started brawling outside the ring before the match begins. Wagner sent Corbin through the steel steps and went on to clear the commentary table, where Corbin fought back. He lifted Mr. Stone but Wagner stopped him with a big boot. When Wagner tried to lift Corbin for a powerbomb through the commentary table, Bron Breakker came from nowhere and speared Wagner.
Result: No Contest Ratings: 3/5
NXT Championship- Carmelo Hayes vs Wes Lee
Carmelo Hayes and Wes Lee tried to showcase their talents by performing same moves. Lee and Hayes fought back to back, where went for a Final Flash, but it wasn’t enough to pin Hayes for the win. Lee then went for a Cardiac kick but Hayes caught him and countered with a Neck Breaker. Hayes then hit a knee to the face (Covet Breaker) and sent Lee out.
Hayes on the aprid went for a senton on Lee through the commentary table and broke that. Hayes grabbed Lee in and went for a cover but Lee kicked out. Lee escaped Hayes and hit him with a Kardiak kick, sending Hayes down. Lee planned for a suicide dive on Hayes, but Hayes moved away, which made Lee land on the floor. Hayes was aware of the situation and moved inside the ring planning for a count out victory. Lee some how managed to enter the ring, where Hayes hit Nothing but Net on Lee for the win.
Winner: Carmelo Hayes Ratings: 4/5

Naom Dar (W) defeated Nathan Frazer with 2-1 lead in the Round 6.
