Cody Rhodes wants the WWE to host WrestleMania in the UK
Following his departure from AEW, Cody Rhodes signed back with the WWE to start his second run in the promotion. In a very short time, he has risen to the top capturing the WWE Universal title in the process and becoming one of the biggest draws in the promotion.
WWE is currently on a tour through the UK and is set to host live shows in the country. Ahead of the shows, The WWE Universal champion went on a media tour to promote the shows.
Rhodes stopped by BBC Radio where he addressed the possibility of WWE hosting WrestleMania across the pond. The American Nightmare hoped that WWE should have a WrestleMania in the United Kingdom.
“‘Should’ it happen here is a yes. ‘Can’ it happen here I believe is also a pretty adamant yes. It’s a matter of, when John Cena goes out and says, ‘Hey, we should have a WrestleMania come to the United Kingdom’, at the time, I don’t know if that was on the books anywhere. I don’t know if that was something that had been, you know, I don’t know where that was.
“But when the greatest of all time, as we like to call John, goes out there and says it, it almost wills itself into existence,” Rhodes stated.
Cody Rhodes also commented on the meeting of Triple H and Nick Khan with The Mayor of London, “You mentioned the Mayor (of London) and his meeting with Triple H and Nick Khan – I’m very much looking forward to watching that situation unfold, just because I think it’s far more in the possibility realm than it was even a week ago.
I think if I’m aiming – and I know nothing – if I’m aiming, it’d be cool to get it in the next five years. Just because, again, there’s some really big venues over here that could host a WrestleMania.”
Cody Rhodes is a second-generation WWE Wrestler
During the conversation at BBC Newsround, Cody Rhodes answered questions submitted by fans. One such question was regarding his nickname ‘The American Nightmare’.
A fan with the username, Brando161 said that they liked Rhodes’ nickname and asked the story behind his nickname. Rhodes is the son of legendary WWE wrestler Dusty Rhodes and the half-brother of wrestler Dustin Rhodes.
Rhodes explains the story behind his nickname stating, “Oh Gosh! Well, my father he was The American Dream Dusty Rhodes and when I first went to wrestle in New Japan- They just wanted me to make that connection,
“At [that] time I was a bad guy so, they thought ‘The American Nightmare’ and somehow-someway I’m just a real plucky good guy, who’s keeping the nightmare name” Rhodes concluded.
