Vince McMahon voluntarily stepped down as chairman and CEO of WWE in 2022

The former Chairman and Co-founder of modern WWE Vince McMahon ruled the pro-wrestling scene for decades. McMahon ruled the pro-wrestling world and catapulted the WWE into a transnational promotion with unrivaled domination.

However, in June 2022 he resigned as CEO and chairman of WWE following claims of hush-money agreements over affairs with former WWE employees. He continued to oversee WWE creative and content development after his resignation.

In 2023, WWE was merged with the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) to form TKO group by their parent company Endeavor Group Holdings in April. McMahon later returned to serve as the executive chairman of the newly merged company, TKO Group Holdings (TKO).

However, he later resigned from his position at TKO Group in January 2024 following allegations of sex trafficking and sexual assault. The former WWE Chairman is currently under a federal probe. Vince has denied all the allegations, has denied all wrongdoing, and stated he was also a victim.

Vince McMahon created a kingdom that was ruled by fear

According to a new investigative piece, ‘A Kingdom Ruled by Fear’ by Rolling Stone six former writers for WWE have come forward to accuse Vince McMahon of creating a toxic and hostile work environment. The writers also shared strict rules set by the former chairman that made it difficult for writers to properly do their jobs.

The report further sheds light on the working conditions of the writers during the era of the former WWE chairman. The reports also detail instances of verbal abuse that were not just limited to the writer’s room. “WWE is a kingdom ruled by fear, It is the motivating factor everywhere: fear.”

The former WWE writers also expressed suspicion that the company’s culture would change under the current leadership of the Chief Content Officer, and WWE legend Paul “Triple H” Levesque.

“There are a lot of people complicit in continuing this culture. I am highly doubtful it’s changed, even with Triple H in charge. I just don’t think it really can.”

The former WWE Chairman denied any wrongdoing regarding the incident or the other allegations made by the former writers, through a representative.

The work culture of the WWE has always been rife with alleged misconduct for decades. However, the recent revelations paint a detailed picture of the WWE’s work environment during Vince McMahon’s reign.
