Rhea Ripley retains, Tag Team Title split, Sami dethrones Gunther, Rock & Roman dominate Cody & Seth and more!!!
The Night 1 of WWE WrestleMania 40 is officially over and it is the must watch events of all time. The show featured a total of seven matches and every match were beyond the expectations, three new champions were crowned and the stipulation for Night 2 main event has been found. Get to know what happened on WrestleMania 40 Night 1, as we came out with the complete match summary, highlights, results, winners and grades.
WrestleMania 40- Night 1 Summary & Highlights
Women’s World Championship- Rhea Ripley (C) vs Becky Lynch
Both Becky Lynch & Rhea Ripley had a great entrance, where Ripley’s entrance song is played live by Motionless in White.
The match began with Rhea Ripley pushing and slapping Becky. Becky was sent to the apron and pushed to the ring post. Becky pushed Rhea’s hand to thr ring post and sends her out with a drop kick. Ripley plants her Becky with a slam. Ripley looks for a vertical suplex, Lynch counters with a roll down, but Rhea connects it finally.
Ripley took Becky down with a drop kick and climbs top rope, but Becky threw her down with a arm drag from the top rope. Becky hit a Tornado DDT, and Ripley kicks-out. Becky Lynch looks for a Manhandle slam, but Mami escapes. Lynch took Ripleu with a Leg Drop and hit an exploder suplex outside the ring to the barricade. Lynch hit a Leg Drop from the top rope again, but not enough. Ripley caught Becky on her shoulder and slammed her.
Ripley looks for a Riptide, but Becky counters with an Armbar, Ripley escapes with three powerbombs. Ripley and Becky exchange hands. Becky sends Ripley shoulder first to the ringpost, locks disarmer between the ropes and hit a leg drop, but Ripley counters with a Prison Trap.
Becky escapes rolling her. Ripley looks for a Riptide, but Becky hit a Manhandle slam for a near fall. Ripley hit a Riptide and the fall, but Becky kicks-out. Ripley climbs the top rope, but Becky stops her and went for the top rope for the vertical suplex and follows it up with a Armbar and Disarmer. Ripley took her on the shoulder and went out of thr ring to hit her back first to the floor.
Ripley hit a Frog Splash on Becky, but not enough. Both went for the top rope, Becky looks for a Manhandle slam, but Ripley counters with a Riptide into the turnbuckle and on the center of the ring for the win. Rhea Ripley retained her Women’s World Championship.
Six-Pack Tag Team Championship Ladder Match
#DIY cosplayed The DX costume and made their entrance to the ring, New Day came out with Boxing jackets, Finn Balor & Damian Priest walked with a mask on their face. The Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships were hanged separately.
The match began with all the challengers attacking The Judgment Day. Autin Theory & grayson Waller look to climb too soon, but three ladders were place and everyone fought on the ladder. The New Day cleared the ladder, but The Judgment Day took control over all.
Every team vented out & New Catch Republic climbed the ladder outside the ring to hit a moonsault over them. Tyler Bate took Finn Balor to the spit with the ladder. Priest and Balor tried to take control, The Miz stops him. Truth asks for a tag and took down Judgment Day. Truth is fired up and he hits five knuckle shuffle. Gargano hit an HBK & Ciampa hit Pedigree on Judgment Day.
DIY and Awesome Truth plans to take one tag title each. However Austin Theory and Grayson Waller took the SmackDown Tag Team Title and won one title.
They tried to take another, but New Day took Austin Theory out & New Catch Republic took Waller out of the ring to break the ladder in half. The match took place for the Raw Tag Tean Championship, where The New Day took DIY in control with Kofi kicking Johnny Gargano with the Trouble in Paradise & Tomasso Ciampa with the elbow drop over the ladder.
Gargano hit a Tornado DDT on Bate. Everyone is down and Truth tried to take the title, but JD McDonagh came from nowhere and hit a Dragon Suolex on him. He tried ti help Finn Balor to climb the ladder, but New Day took Balor and McDonagh down breaking the tables.
Priest took both Woods and Kingston down and climbs the broken ladder, but Miz stops him. Priest and Miz collapse down. Priesr with the new ladder tried to climb the ladder, but R-Truth took him out of the ring with an AA. Truth took the Raw Tag Team Title. Awesome Truth wins the Raw Tag Team Championship.
Rey Mysterio & Andrade vs Santos Escobar & Dominik Mysterio
The entire Legado Del Fantasma & entire Latino World Order were on the ringside to support their team. Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar kick start the match, where Rey took Escobar and he tags Dominik Mysterio in. Dom kicks Rey to the mid section and Andrade tags in. Andrade hits a back elbow on Dom to send him out. Rey tags in and climbs on the shoulder of Andrade to take down both Dom and Escobar with a extended Crossbody.
Back in the ring, Rey tried to teach Dom a lesson with the belt, but Dom takes control on Rey and attacks Andrade. Escobar and Dom with back to back tag took Rey in control. Rey hit a spinning senton on Rey, Escobar kicks Rey to the mid section. Rey tries to fight back, but Escobar took him on the shoulder, Rey connected it with a Canadian Destroyer.
Andrade got tagged in and he is fired up. He took Escobar and Dom with a Dragon Screw. Andrade hit a moonsault on Dom and a double knees. Rey took Escobar for a 619 and sends Dom out. Andrade hit a Moonsault from the middle rope to outside the ring.
LWO & LDF got involved in the match with Elektra Lopez intitiating a distraction. Zelina took her out, LWO and LDF went brawling, Joaquin Wilde made his WrestleMania moment, by flying through LDF. Carlito and Zelina clears LDF.
Escobar asks Dom to bring the chair, but two masked guys stopped Dom. Rey took both Dom and Escobar for a double 619. Andrade hit his finisher and Rey hit a frog splash for the win. Rey Mysterio & Andrade won & the masked guys reveal to be Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson of Philadelphia Eagles.
Jimmy Uso vs Jey Uso
Lil Wayne raps for Jey and accompanied him to the ring.
Jimmy Uso made an as usual entrance. While he makes his way to the ring, Jey Uso hit a suicide dive on him, pushed him on the barricade and took him to the ring. Jimmy tries to fight back, but Jey took him down and hit a suicide dive and a cross body. Jimmy hit a Samoan Drop on Jey to take control.
Jimmy kicks him on the mid section took him on the knees and hit a couple of super kick and another two when he tries to stand up. Jimmy hit the fifthe super kick and climbs the top rope. Jimmy tries for a frog splash but Jey escapes and super kicks Jimmy. Both exchange hands.
Jey looks for a Samoan Drop, Jimmy counters. Both exchange kicks to the mid section and step up enzigiri. Both exchange hands again and exchange super kicks 3 super kicks each. Jey hit another, again and another super kick in the air. Jey stops his next super kick when Jimmy ask him to stop and asks sorry. This is getting emotional.
Jey lifts Jimmy, but Jimmy hit a super kick and a frog splash, but Jey kicks out. Jimmy measures his brother and Jey hit a spear and a Splash for the win. JEY USO wins.
Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair & Naomi vs Damage CTRL
A group of Japanes Women with Pankha on their hands came to introduce Damage CTRL. Whereas Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair & Naomi came from the lift from top to down. They were dressed up good with Jade and Naomi wearing hat and Belair wearing a stylish glass.
Naomi and Asuka start the match, where Kairi gets tagged in, Damage CTRL with distraction took control of Naomi. Kairi Sane hit an Insane Elbow on Naomi to out of the ring. Asuka gets tagged in and they double team Naomi. However she fights back, took Kai and Asuka down. Kai and Belair tags in. Belair is fired up and she took all the three with ease. Belair hit ten punches to the face, backbuster, block buster threw Kairi.
Belair hit a Moonsault on the trio, but Damage CTRL took Belair in control with team work. Belair sneaks and tagged Cargill in. Jade is fired up, she took all the three down. She hit Asuka with a Big right hand, kicks Kai and Chokeslammed Asuka.
Kairi Sane tried for a crossbody, but Jade caught her and hit a body slam. Belair tries for a KOD, but Asuka stopped her and accidentally misted Kairi, Naomi hit her finisher on Kairi, Belair whipped Asuka with the ponytail and hit a KOD, Jade Cargill with Jaded on Kai took the win. Jade Cargill, Naomi & Bianca Belair won.
Intercontinental Championship Match- Gunther (C) vs Sami Zayn
Sami Zayn has a backstage segment. His family is here, he asked his son not to watch him fight, fearing of what happened to Chad Gable’s kids. Gable motivated him and Kevin Owens meets him to motivate that he got this. Sami Zayn makes his entrance as usual with a great pop. The Ring General was accompanied by Ludwig Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci, but Gunther walked alone to the ring.
As the match begin, Sami Zayn surrounds Gunther and he seems focused. Gunther and Sami lock hands, Sami hit a series of chops on Gunther’s chest escaping his chop. Gunther hit a German Suplex, a Chop and a kick to the face to take control. Gunther chops again and again to lay him down.
Sami tries to fight back, Gunther lays Sami over the top rope, hit a chop and kicks him. Gunther chops Sami to lay him down. Both exchange chops and Sami escapes Gunther’s chop and hit a clothesline. Gunther’s chops is thunderous. Sami fights back and hit a couple of suplex, but Gunthrr took him down with a Clothesline turning Sami upside down.
Gunther look for a powerbomb, but Sami hit chops and slap on Gunther and hit a Tornado DDT. Sami looks for a Blue Thunder Bomb, but Gunther counters with a Sleeper Holds. Sami tries to reach the rope, but Gunther hit a German Suplex.
Sami Zayn hit an exploder suplex and looks for Helluva kick, but Gunther hit a drop kick and powerbomb, but not enough for a fall. Gunther hit a Helluva kick and went for another, but Sami followed him and hit an Helluva Kick, but not enough for a fall.
Sami looks for another Helluva kick, but Gunther hit a clothesline and a couple of powerbomb, but Sami kicks out. Gunther tried to send a message to Sami’s wife, but she doesn’t give a damn. Gunther stomps Sami and hit a Clothesline.
Gunther plays mind games and trash talks with Sami’s wife. He continues to torture Sami and hit a Powerbomb. Gunther hit a splash from the top rope and hit another splash. Gunther goes for the third and looks to trash talk, but Sami is fired up. Sami hit an Helluva kick and deliveres a brain buster on the turnbuckle, Gunther is stumblinh. Sami hit a couple of Helluva kick a to dethrone Gunther to win the Intercontinental Championship. Sami Zayn won the Intercontinental Championship.
Adam Pearce & Nick Aldis
The Raw & SmackDown General Managers, Adam Pearce & Nick Aldis are on the stage to announce the attendance record of WrestleMania Night 1 attendance: 72,543.
The Rock & Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes & Seth “Freakin” Rollins
Cody Rhodes came out from the elevator to the top, Seth Rollins wore a grandier and funkier dress. The Rock’s entrance was outstanding with electrifying pyros and flames which shaped like Brahma Bull. Rock walked with a Vest Coast and carried the People’s Championship on his shoulders. Roman Reigns walked with Paul Heyman to the ring.
Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins are starting the match. Hands lockes and Roman locks Seth Rollins’ head and took him down with a shoulder tackle. They lock hands and head again, but Seth escapes and hit the mid-section of Roman. Seth Rollins tags Cody Rhodes. He twist Roman’s hands, but Roman hit a clothesline. Cody targets Roman’s mid section and both lock hands again. Rollins gets tagged in and The Rock wants the tag.
Seth Rollins and Rock square off and they lock hands. Rock over powered Rollins to toss him around the other corner. Rollins tackles Rock and pushes him. Rock took Rollins to the corner and kicks him on the mid section. Rollins fights back and sends him to the turnbuckle, but Rock took him down with the clothesline. Rock them calls Cody to the ring. Cody tags in.
The Rock and Cody Rhodes lock heads and have a staredown. Cody punches him on the face. Rock kicks him on the mid section and Cody takes control of the final boss with puches to the face and chop. Cody took Rock to their corner, tags Rollins in and both took Rock down with a double team. They also took Roman down. Both team have a deep stare and fight eachother. Rock and Rollins brawl on tbr ringside, while Cody took Roman to the entrance way.
Rock told the ref not to count, if he does Rock will fire him. Rollins took Rock to the audience area and Rock took control of Rollins smashing his face on the box and with a trasj can. Rollins soon took the momentum and fights Rock. Both fight each other, where Rock spits warer on Rollins face and Rollins took Rock to the ringside area. On the other side, Roman fights back and took Rhodes to the ring.
Roman attacks Rollins already injured knee and The Bloodline takes control and Rock took control of him, targetting Seth Rollins knee and smashes it on the ring post. Cody comes through and Rock tagged Roman. Roman targets Rollins’ leg and he screams. Rock hit the cheap shot on Rollins and Roman caught Rollins in a one leg Boston Crab.
Rollins fights back and looks to tag, but Roman took Cody down. Rollins took Roman down, but Rock atracked him from behind to make him suffer pain. Rock pushed Rollins to the steal stairs. Rock and Roman wirh back to back tags destroying Rollins. Rock gets tagged in and punched on his groin, but referee didn’t say any word.
Roman and Cody Rhodes fight amd this made Roman bleed on his nose. Rollins tags in and hit the Frog Splash. Rollins looks for a stomp by Roman escapes. Cody gets tagged in and he looks for Cody Cutter, but Roman low blows him, when ref is distracted by The Rock.
Roman hit the spear, but Cody kicks out. Roman locks Cody with a Guilatine. With Rock dragging Cody’s leg, Cody is getting faded. Rollins stomps on Roman’s face. Rock took Rollins out. Rock took the Mama Rhodes belt and goes to handle it to Cody’s mom, but Cody stops him. Rock with a spine burster measures Cody for a People’s elbow. Cody escapes and hit a Cody Cutter. Cody looks for a Cross Rhodes, but Roman hit him with a Superman punch.
Roman looks to spear Cody, but accidentally speared The Rock, as Seth saved Cody. Cody and Rollins hit a pedigree on them, but both kicked out. Rollins with a Cross body took Roman down outside the ring. Cody clears the announcement table.
Rock fights back, spits Codh on the face and slams him on the table. Rock and Roman stand on the spanish announcement table, but Rollins pulls Rock’s leg. Cody hit a Rock bottom to rock to break the announcement table. Roman speared Rollins breaking the barricade.
Cody took Rock inside the ring, Roman drop kicks Cody and tags in. Roman punishes Cody and both exchange hands. Cody hit two Cross Rodes on Roman, but when went for the third got smashes with the weight belt by Rock. Roman speared him, but not enough. Rock tags in and hit a Rock bottom.
Rock points the ones and hit a Peoples Elbow on Cody to win the match. Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on Night 2 will now be The Bloodline Rules. Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes are disappointed, where Rock and Roman walks to the ramp.
