Backlash 2024 will be the first WWE PPV hosted in France

WWE is one of the biggest professional wrestling promotions, which is primarily based in Stamford, Connecticut, United States. It started as a regional promotion, however evolved into a global promotion over the years.

They promoted their company overseas with world tours and events across the globe. The company is all set to host their first pay-per-view and a live event in France. So here we take a look at the past events of WWE in France.

WWE House Show 1989

WWE first toured France in 1989 for the WWF House Show during the Boom Period. WWF/E hosted the show on October 13, 1989 in Paris, France.

A total of six matches were held in the event, where Hulk Hogan defeated Randy Savage in the main event of the show to retain the WWF Championship. Some of the other interesting matches in the show include Bret Hart vs The Honky Tonk Man and The Rockers vs The Fabulous Rougeaus.

WrestleMania Revenge Tour 2012

It took almost 23 years for the company to tour France again. WWE hosted their second show in France, ‘WrestleMania Revenge Tour 2012’. It was the ninth night of the WrestleMania tour in Europe, which took place on April 20, 2012 at Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy in Paris, France.

This tour is exclusive to the Raw brand, featuring Raw superstars. A total of eight matches were held, where CM Punk defeated Chris Jericho in a no-disqualification match to retain his WWE Championship.

WWE House Show 2022

WWE again took a long break of over a decade from touring France. The company hosted a House Show in France on April 30, 2022 at the Accor Arena in Paris. A total of eight matches has been announced in which Roman Reigns defeated Drew McIntyre to retain the Universal Championship.

Other interesting matches include RK-Bro vs The Usos, Gunther vs Shinsuke Nakamura & Charlotte Flair vs Ronda Rousey for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

SmackDown 2024

The Stamford based company will be hosting the May 3, 2024 episode of SmackDown on May 3, 2024 at LDLC Arena in Decines-Charpieu, Lyon Metropolis, France. This is the first time the company will be hosting a live show in France and it is the last episode before Backlash 2024.

Backlash France 2024

The company will be hosting the 2024 Backlash Premium Live Event in France on May 4, 2024 at LDLC Arena in Decines-Charpieu in Lyon Metropolis, France. This is the first time WWE is hosting a pay-per-view in France. A total of five matches are booked for the show, where two World Championships and two tag team championships are defended on the line.
