Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024: Schedule, fixtures, results, live streaming details

The Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024 is set to kick off on Friday in Tehran, Iran, where 15 Indian athletes will vie for medals and glory. The biennial event, which started in 2004, is organized by the Asian Athletics Association and will see its 10th edition this year. The Indian team, comprising eight women and seven men, will be led by two of the country’s best performers in the sport – Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Jyothi Yarraji.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor, who holds the Asian record in men’s shot put, is the defending champion in the event, having won the gold medal at the previous edition in Astana last year. He is also an Asian Games gold medallist and aims to retain his title in Tehran.

Jyothi Yarraji, on the other hand, is the current Asian champion in the women’s 100m hurdles and the national record holder in the 60m hurdles. She bagged the silver medal in the latter event at the Asian Indoor Championships last year and will look to go one step further this time.

The Indian squad also features some promising talents, such as Harmilan Bains and Shaili Singh. Bains, who won two silver medals in the women’s 800m and 1500m at the Asian Games, will focus on the 1500m event in Tehran. Singh, who clinched the silver medal in the women’s long jump at the U20 World Athletics Championships in 2021, will also compete in the same event.

Other notable names in the Indian team are Ajay Kumar Saroj, Gulveer Singh, and Pavithra Venkatesh. Saroj, who won the men’s 1500m silver medal at the Asian Games, will participate in the same event in Tehran. Gulveer Singh, who secured the bronze medal in the men’s 10,000m at the Asian Games, will switch to the 3000m event. Venkatesh, who finished second in the women’s pole vault at the Asian Indoor Championships last year, will also be in action.
