BWF German Open 2025: All you need to know about prize money and points on offer

Victor Axelsen is the top-seeded player participating in the German Open 2025.

The BWF German Open is nearing its conclusion, with the finals of the five categories set to take place on 2nd March. The tournament started on 25th February at Westenergie Sporthalle, Mülheim an der Ruhr, with two rounds of qualifiers for the Men’s Singles event and one round of qualifying for the remaining events.

The Men’s Singles event has several stars participating, including two-time Olympic gold medalist Viktor Axelsen and former World Champion Loh Kean Yew. Yeo Jia Min is the top seed in the Women’s Singles section. The doubles section is, unfortunately, short on marquee names.

Brits Ben Lane and Sean Vendy lead the pack in the Men’s Doubles category, while the likes of Chen Qing Chen (reigning Olympic champion)/Wang Ting Ge and the Stoeva sisters are competing in the Women’s Doubles event. The first seed in the mixed doubles category is the Danish pairing of Jesper Toft and Amalie Magelund.

As for Indian participation, the Men’s Singles category includes Former World Number #1 Kidambi Srikanth, Tharun Mannepalli, and Kiran George. Anupama Upadhyaya and Aakarshi Kashyap, among others, are present in the Women’s Singles section, while Shruti Mishra and Priya Konjengbam form the only Indian pair in the Women’s Doubles event.

Sai Pratheek and Pruthvi Roy are the higher-ranked duo, among the two pairings from the nation in the Men’s Doubles category, while Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto lead the pack in the Mixed Doubles section. Here’s the prize money breakdown for the participants at the BWF German Open 2025.

The points on offer, as explained above, correspond to all Super 300 events. The numbers are the same, irrespective of the category. The winner will earn 7000 points, while the runners-up get 5950 points. The losing semifinalists will take home 4900 points, while those with a quarterfinal finish will procure 3850 points. A second-round finish assures a player/pair of 2750, while a first-round loss will mean 1670 points.

The tournament has a cumulative prize pool of USD 240,000. In the two singles categories, the winners will earn a sum of USD 18,000, while their counterparts in the doubles event get USD 9120. The runners-up in all five categories will take home USD 9,120. The losing semifinalists in the singles events will obtain USD 3,480, while those in the doubles ones will get USD 3,360.

For losing quarterfinalists in the individual events, an amount of USD 1440 is reserved, while those in the double sections will procure USD 1740. In case of a second-round defeat, the sum on offer in the singles sections is USD 840, while the pairings in the three doubles categories will get USD 900.
