Ravindra Jadeja overtakes Irfan Pathan to become India's highest wicket-taker in Asia Cup history

Ravindra Jadeja overtook former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan in elusive record.
Indian spinners are in control of their game against Sri Lanka in the Super 4 round. Indian left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja has now become India’s leading wicket-taker in the Asia Cup. Jadeja needed one wicket to overtake former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan in the tournament's history. Team India needed their spinners to do well as they posted only 213 runs on the board. The wicket was turning square and the Sri Lankan spinner troubled the Indian batting lineup.

Ravindra Jadeja sent Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka back into the pavilion to take his tally to 23 and overtake Irfan Pathan. Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan got 22 wickets in 12 Asia Cup games. Pathan played in this tournament in 2004, 2008 and 2012. Ravindra Jadeja has played 18 games so far in his Asia Cup career. He is also the leading wicket-taker in the tournament among the current players taking part in the Asia Cup 2023. Shakib Al Hasan is second with 21 wickets in 17 games.
Sri Lankan off-spinner Muthiah Muralitharan is the leading wicket-taker in this tournament. Murali has taken 30 wickets in 24 games. Lasith Malinga is second with 29 wickets in 14 games, while Ajantha Mendis is 3rd in the list with 26 wickets in just 8 games. Ravindra Jadeja will be looking to extend his tally more, He has already got two wickets so far in the game and will have an opportunity against Bangladesh on 15th September and then in the Final if India qualify.

Jadeja needed 3 more wickets before entering into this game to complete his 200 ODI wickets, He has got 2 against Sri Lanka and needs one more to join the elite list for India with 200 One-day International wickets. Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Dunith Wellalage picked up 5 wickets in the first innings.
