Switzerland announce 38-man provisional squad for Euro 2024; Granit Xhaka & Xherdan Shaqiri included

Murat Yakin will have a hard time cutting the squad list
The Switzerland national football team unveiled a 38-man provisional squad in preparation for their Euro 2024 campaign in Germany. Switzerland’s head coach Murat Yakin has cast a wide net, aiming to assess a deep pool of talent and refine tactics before finalizing the official 26-man roster by June 7th.
This expansive selection process reflects Switzerland‘s ambition at their first European Championship appearance as an independent nation.
While nine players will ultimately be cut, the extended training period allows Yakin to experiment with different formations and player combinations, ensuring they arrive in Germany well-prepared.
The squad boasts a healthy mix of experience and rising stars. Captain Granit Xhaka, the experienced Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, will provide leadership and stability in the centre of the park. He’ll be joined by veterans like Fabian Schär (Newcastle United) and Ricardo Rodriguez (Torino FC), who offer defensive solidity and tactical awareness.
The upcoming weeks will be crucial for refining tactics, building team chemistry, and ensuring each player is in peak physical condition.
While they may not be the favourites, Switzerland’s blend of experience, talent, and fighting spirit makes them a team to watch in Germany. With a strong showing at Euro 2024, they could not only surprise a few teams but also announce themselves as a force to be reckoned with on the international stage.
The Euro 2024 group stage draw wasn’t exactly kind to Switzerland. Their opening fixtures pit them against Scotland, Hungary, and hosts Germany. They’ll need to be at their best to reach the knockout stages. However, having achieved that feat in the last two tournaments, it’s something they’re certainly capable of.
Switzerland, with their blend of experience, youthful exuberance, and a burning desire to succeed, will be a team to watch closely at Euro 2024. They have the potential to turn heads and rewrite their European Championship story once again.
