CM Punk’s top three best matches
CM Punk in a recent interview with No Contest Wrestling revealed the top three best matches of his career. Punk said that it is easy to pick for him and revealed that his match against John Cena on the February 25, 2013 episode of WWE Raw in Dallas, Texas, his WrestleMania 29 match against The Undertaker and the match with Brock Lesnar on SummerSlam 2013 as his top three best matches of his career.
CM Punk vs John Cena on the February 25, 2013 episode of Raw
CM Punk said that his match against John Cena on the February 25, 2013 episode of WWE Raw was the best-worked match in his career.
Punk said, “I think it’s easy to pick number one, it’s me and John Cena from Houston leading up to WrestleMania. It was on a Monday Night Raw. Easily I think our best-televised match, we might have had better matches on house shows, I don’t know. But that is also my flu match. I was sick, and boy was I sick and tired at that point. So that is like the essence of CM Punk at that moment, hurt, tired, pissed off, chip on his shoulder, me and John went out there, it was just planets aligned and it was magic.”
“If I could ever say that I had a perfect match, that would probably be it. I’m talking lead up, story, character stuff for both guys, action, crowd, being able to manipulate the crowd how you wanted, listening to them, like everything.”
CM Punk vs The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29
CM Punk said that his match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29 was the second-best match of his career. Punk said, “I’ve had good matches in front of bad crowds. I’ve had bad matches in front of good crowds. So I would disqualify certain matches based on those criteria. But as close to perfect as you can possibly get, I would put CM Punk vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania. And these are all around the same time too.”
CM Punk vs Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2013
CM Punk said that the match with Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2013 was the third-best match of his career. Punk said, “So could it possibly be like the zenith of my in-ring career? I don’t know. I still like to think I’m operating at a pretty high level. Me vs. Brock at Staples Center, SummerSlam. I think those three are a pretty good list.”
All three matches of Punk came from WWE and everything was in the final year of his first run in the Stamford-based company, before his controversial departure.
