Don’t think WWE superstars can’t be comic book fans

What does professional wrestling have in common with the comic book world? Well, for one, they both consist of a plethora of characters that are larger than life.

Both have a crazy fanbase that is loyal for a lifetime. When it comes to fans of comic books, many celebrities are avid followers, so how can WWE wrestlers stay behind? Here, we take a look at five current WWE wrestlers who are massive comic book fans.

5. Rey Mysterio

The Biggest Little Man of WWE himself appears to be a character straight out of a comic book. It comes as no surprise that Rey Mysterio is a comic book enthusiast.

He has displayed his love for the world of superheroes on numerous occasions by constantly dressing up as famous comic book characters.

Mysterio has dressed up as Wolverine, Spider-Man, Batman and Captain America, to name a few. Each time, he has pulled off all those superhero looks with perfection.

4. Finn Balor

This Judgement Day member is a huge fan of the comic book world. So much so that he collects comic books like many die-hard fans.

Moreover, his demon persona, which is massively over with the fans, is loosely inspired by the Venom character that appears in Spider-Man comics.

Just like Venom takes over the body of Eddie Brock, the demon persona takes possession of Balor to wreak havoc. The Irish performer has combined his love for comics masterfully with his creative vision to forge a famous gimmick.

3. Cody Rhodes

The Undisputed WWE Universal champion has another passion other than outmaneuvering his challengers. Cody Rhodes is admittedly a massive comic book geek and has read a lot of them over the years.

He particularly loves reading comic books of Archangel, Omega Red and X-Men’s Cyclops. Moreover, Rhodes has revealed that he has worn secret comic book symbols on his wrestling attires to display his affection for the mystical world.

The nickname, ‘American Nightmare,’ feels like it has been heavily inspired by the comic book world. In short, Rhodes appears to be embodying his favorite superhero characters in real life.

2. Roman Reigns

When you picture ‘The Original Tribal Chief’ in all his glory, it is hard to imagine him as a comic book enthusiast.

But you’d be surprised to know that Roman Reigns has always had a keen interest in comic books. When he is not decimating his adversaries, the Anoa’i family member could be found geeking over his favorite fictional heroes.

It’s no surprise that Reigns loves the Wolverine character in Marvel comics, as the X-Men member possesses antihero qualities just like him.

Moreover, like many others, the Bloodline leader loves ‘The Man of Steel’ Superman. What better way to give a nod to your hero than naming one of your signature moves after him, ‘The Superman Punch’?

1. CM Punk

CM Punk is another high-profile WWE wrestler who lives and breathes comic books. His first job was in a comic book store.

The Second City Saint has no qualms in making his love for comic books known to the world. Punk has taken his comic book love to another level by donning the writer’s hat for a handful of comic books.

He penned the foreword for Marvel’s AVENGERS VS X-MEN series in 2012. Not only that but ‘The Voice of Voiceless’ also wrote one story in the Vertigo’s Strange Sports Stories anthology series in 2015.

Punk’s story arc in WWE has a lot of commonality with a classic superhero character who is an underdog, to begin with but turns out to be a force to reckon with in the end.

It’s no wonder that these WWE superstars are humble toward their fanbase; after all, they know what being a fanboy means.
