The Royal Rumble has its own one-of-a-kind records in the 38 years since the event came into existence.

The WWE Royal Rumble event is one of the most thrilling and awaited events in the history of the company. The event first debuted in 1988 and, since then, has created memorable moments and delivered exceptional in-ring showdowns. However, the one highlight of the entire event has always been the 30-person Royal Rumble match for the Men’s and Women’s divisions.

Over the years, the event and the namesake match have set some historic and even records that are surprising to many by legends like The Undertaker, Steve Austin and Brock Lesnar. Here are the ten most obscure WWE Royal Rumble records in history:

10. No eliminations despite a longer duration

In 2021, Randy Orton entered the 30-man Royal Rumble match with Edge as the No.2 entrant. The duo were also the final two in the match. Despite lasting till the end and spending 58:20 in the bout, The Viper did not even score a single elimination and set a surprising record of his own.

9. Biggest year gap between the first & last Rumble match

The Undertaker has always been a top name in the professional wrestling industry. But The Phenom holds a surprising record of his own when it comes to the Royal Rumble. The Undertaker made his debut in the match in 1991 and competed in his final Rumble match in 2017. This set a 26-year gap between his first and last Rumble match, fetching him a record apart from being the winner of the 2007 Royal Rumble winner.

8. Years between Rumble appearances

Another astonishing Royal Rumble record is held by WWE legend and current AEW star Jeff Jarrett. The Last Outlaw competed in the 1999 Rumble match and did not appear in the 30-man over-the-top-rope melee until his surprise appearance in 2019. This meant a 20-year gap for Double J and etching a Rumble record in his legendary resume.

7. Most & Least effort in winning the Royal Rumble

There have been legendary names who have tossed close to half of the field en route to winning the Royal Rumble match. Simultaneously, some superstars made the least effort and still emerged victorious.

In the first category, it was names like Stone Cold Steve Austin in 1997 and 2001, tossing out 10 superstars, and Shawn Michaels eliminating eight men in both 1995 and 1996. On the flip side, Vince McMahon in 1999 and Randy Orton in 2017 eliminated only one superstar each to win the 30-man battle royal.

6. Most years and Most eliminations

There is one accomplished Royal Rumble competitor who has scored the maximum number of eliminations for most of the years the event took place. He is none other than the only three-time winner, Stone Cold Steve Austin. The Bionic Redneck has tossed out the most competitors in four different Rumble matches, i.e. 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2002, holding this unique record along with his three victory one.

5. Most late entrants

The Royal Rumble is majorly favourable if a superstar enters as late as the last spot, and in some cases, certain superstars have drawn numbers for the final five spots.

One name is Randy Orton, who got one of the five final spots a total of six times (2006, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2019 and 2022) which did not translate into any Rumble victories. Other superstars include Big Show and Kane, each having five late entries, and then Roman Reigns and Rey Mysterio, each with three late entries.

4. Most Final Four Appearances

In the Royal Rumble match, lasting until the top four has been a tough feat to achieve for many superstars, let alone do it multiple times. That record belongs to the two-time Royal Rumble winner, Randy Orton. WWE’s Apex Predator has been among the final four Rumble competitors a record eight times (2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2017, 2020 and 2021), becoming an impressive accolade in his Rumble resume.

3. Shortest Stints in Two Royal Rumbles

Titus O’Neil has a hilarious Royal Rumble moment from the Greatest Royal Rumble event in 2018. But he also holds the record of two short stints in Rumble matches. The first match was in the 2015 Rumble match, where he lasted for four seconds, and then in 2019, topping that with five seconds, which is unmatched in the history of the global juggernaut.

2. Longest Late Winning Run

No superstar besides Cody Rhodes has been in the Rumble match longer despite entering from a very late entry number. The American Nightmare entered the 2023 Royal Rumble match at #30 and wrestled for 15:08, setting a new record. This led to his very first victory in the 30-man over-the-top-rope melee and setting a record for himself as well.

1. Numbers that led to victories

The entry numbers have been very crucial for past Rumble winners. Batista won the 2005 and 2014 Royal Rumble matches from the same spot, i.e. No. 28. Similarly for WWE Hall of Famer Edge, he won the 2021 Royal Rumble from the first two spots, i.e. #1, and his first Rumble victory in 2010 came from the second last spot, i.e. #29.
