On this day 8 years ago, all the members of The Shield held WWE World Title.

The Shield was one of the most iconic wrestling stables that consisted of Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose. They made their WWE debut on 2012 and were more dominant and successful throughout their run. Together, they held a total of nine championships in WWE. Although being the most iconic faction, the stable disbanded following the departure of Ambrose from WWE in 2019.

Today marks an important moment in the history of The Shield, where all the three held the same title on the same night. Here we recall one of the most iconic moments of the Shield in WWE, which happened exactly on the same day (June 19, 2016) eight years ago.

Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the same day

On this day eight years ago, at the 2016 Money in the Bank pay-per-view, Dean Ambrose participated in the Money in the bank ladder match competing with Alberto Del Rio, Cesaro, Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn. After a 21 minute brawl, Ambrose managed to climb the ladder and win the Money in the Bank contract for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match.

Later the same night, Roman Reigns defended his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins in a singles match. That was the time when Rollins’ finisher ‘Curb Stomp’ was banned from WWE, where Rollins used Triple H’s Pedigree as his finisher. Both had a tough fight where Roman was initially checked by the doctors, after accidentally hitting the barricade, while trying to spear Rollins outside the ring.

In the final moments of the match, Rollins tried for a pedigree and Roman countered with a spear. Following that Rollins countered Roman’s second spear with a Pedigree and with the second Pedigree to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after a 26 minutes brawl.

As the Roman vs Rollins match went more physical, Rollins was barely able to stand. Dean Ambrose’s music was played and the architect was looking for Ambrose from the entrance. However Ambrose attacked Rollins from the back with the briefcase and cashed-in his MITB contract to defeat Rollins with Dirty Deed and become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion for the first time.

The event marks the only event where all the three members of The Shield held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
